Syria's state-run news agency says the military's air defenses have confronted a missile attack on air base in central Syria and shot down eight missiles.

In November, Russia blocked the renewal of the independent panel investigating chemical weapons in Syria, and British Ambassador Karen Pierce reminded the council that Tuesday's vote marked Russia's sixth veto related to chemical weapons in Syria.

"We can not tolerate with a war criminal", the emir said, adding, "This matter should end immediately".

"The last attack intended on degrading Assad's ability to launch chemical weapons attacks and deter the regime from using the weapons", said Jennifer Cafarella, a Syria analyst at the nonpartisan Institute for the Study of War in Washington.

Daniel Davis, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who is now a senior fellow and military expert at the Washington-based think tank Defense Priorities, said he thought Trump should follow his earlier inclination.

Turning from the Russian role in Syria to that of the Americans, Amidror said that US President Donald Trump - who promised a "forceful" response to the alleged use of chemical weapons by Assad in Douma on Sunday - is now standing before a "cardinal decision".

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov spoke with reporters and expressed his frustration over the #United States' inability to face reality.

Rescue workers and doctors said more than 42 people were killed in the chemical attack, but that there were likely many more victims yet to be found.

It urged Russian Federation and the Syrian government to allow global monitors access to the affected areas. While he did attack the Syrian military before on these grounds, it was mainly thought to be one of an attack and a warning - to not use the chemical weapons again.

Russian Federation vetoed a US-drafted resolution on setting up a panel to identify the perpetrators of toxic gas attacks after chemical weapons were allegedly used in the rebel-held town of Douma.

Both Damascus and Moscow had warned against using the allegations to justify military action against Assad.

Following Saturday's devastating attack, Syrian state media said the group had agreed to surrender and withdraw from Douma. They include sea-launched cruise missiles aboard ships within range of Syria. They said the planes were operating in Lebanese air space.

U.S. and French forces have reportedly moved to the eastern Mediterranean in anticipation of the strikes.

The European Union said "the evidence points towards yet another chemical attack by the regime", while opposition ally Turkey stated it had a "strong suspicion" Assad was to blame.

That panel had found that the Syrian air force had dropped sarin on the village of Khan Sheikhun in April of previous year.

If these reports are confirmed, the attack on April 7 would be the deadliest since around 100 people died from sarin gas in Khan Sheikhoun, northwestern Syria, in April 2017.

Israel has repeatedly warned it will not accept its arch-foe Iran entrenching itself militarily in Syria.

Another option would be to treat the Syrian war as an opportunity, a chance to reshape the Middle East to our desires.

The news comes after an Israeli airstrike on Syria's Tiyas Military Airbase (T4) on Monday.

Syrian regime forces have waged an assault since February 18 on Ghouta, that has killed more than 1,700 civilians and left Islamist rebels cornered in their last holdout of Douma, Ghouta's largest town.

After warning Monday of "grave repercussions" of USA military action, the Russian ambassador urged the United States to "come to your senses" and refrain from ordering strikes on Syria.

Jaish al-Islam did not confirm the deal, but a civilian committee from Douma participating in the talks said a "final agreement" was reached for rebels to leave.
