Palestinian-American Journalist Dies After Being Shot By Israeli Forces

Six Palestinians dead and hundreds injured in Gaza border violence

Demonstrators assist an injured Palestinian journalist Yasser Murtaga during clashes with Israeli security forces following a protest near the border with Israel east of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip

Israeli aircraft have struck a Hamas target in the Gaza Strip, in response to two explosive devices found near Israel's border with the territory.

The senior adviser to the president of the Palestinian Authority says Hamas' Gaza border protest is all about media martyrdom - sending civilians to die for propaganda purposes.

In 2017, Shai Masot, a political officer at the Israeli embassy, was caught on film offering to help "take down" Alan Duncan MP, a well-known supporter of Palestinian rights.

Israeli military officials responded by saying they have never deliberately opened fire on reporters.

He said his brother had been detained by Israeli forces after being shot at the checkpoint.

Demonstrators are demanding the right of return for refugees.

Nine Palestinians were killed on Friday as Israel ignored calls for restraint in its use of force against unarmed protesters in Gaza for the second week in a row.

Palestinian Journalists Syndicate termed it as deliberate crimes committed by the Israeli troops.

Palestine solidarity and anti-Israeli protest rallies were also waged in major Canadian city of Vancouver, where hundreds of protesters marched for hours across the city center, waving signs and shouting slogans condemning Israeli atrocities against Palestinian protesters and calling for a free Palestine.

The air strike comes as Palestinians in Gaza have staged mass protests against a border blockade that have drawn Israeli fire.

On Saturday, a Palestinian journalist covering the Great March of Return in Gaza was killed after being hit by live Israeli ammunition Friday.

Witnesses described the area in which Murtaja and others were shot as a chaotic scene in which protesters torched large piles of tires, engulfing the area in black smoke that was meant to shield them from Israeli snipers.

Israel says most of those killed were militants.

"We echo the call by the UN Secretary-General for an independent and transparent investigation into these incidents, with a view to holding accountable those responsible". The IDF says the marches are a new tactic by Hamas, which rules Gaza, to conduct terror operations in the confusion of the demonstrations.

United Nations' human rights office that it has indications of Israeli forces using "excessive force" the previous week.

Friday's demonstrations were smaller, and the death toll was lower than last week's demonstrations, suggesting the protests could be weakening.
