This is to notice that the whole incident took place in 1998 when Salman was shooting with Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and others in Jodhpur for the film Hum Saath Saath Hain.

Pronouncing Salman guilty in the case, the court termed him a "habitual offender" as he is also accused in killing chinkaras during the same time. The Bombay High Court had granted him interim relief only hours after his sentencing owing to the fact that his lawyers had submitted a detailed and reasoned order.

He spent a total of 18 days in prison in 1998, 2006 and 2007 in the poaching cases, but was freed on bail, the Press Trust of India news agency said.

"Khan's absence will have a big impact and mistakes do happen".

As the latest sentence is more than three years, Salman will have to appeal in a higher court for bail.

Some members of Bishnoi community in Kankani village, Jodhpur had accused them of killing two blackbucks, which are of endangered species.

Bollywood's "enfant terrible" and arguably its most successful star, with an estimated Rs 600 crore riding on him now, has long walked the good and bad binary with his larger than life "bhai" image clashing with his controversial personal life. At Jodhpur Central Jail he will be stationed in a special security barrack alongside Asaram Bapu's cell. Going by the history of the case that has lasted two decades, Salman appears to be on a good footing as far as securing bail is concerned.

Public prosecutor Bhawani Singh said he would speak to the government on the acquittal of other actors and decide on filing appeals in the Sessions Court.

He was also accused of assaulting a former Miss World and provoked a firestorm in 2016 by saying his workout schedule for a film left him feeling "like a raped woman".

28 September 1998: Salman Khan allegedly hunted two more chinkara near Ghoda Farm area in Osian region of Jodhpur.

According to media reports, Salman's counsel asked for minimum punishment for the actor after he was convicted.

While sending him to jail in the poaching case, the Jodhpur judge on Thursday said the superstar is being sent to custody because people look up to him and the way he killed innocent deer. He was convicted in two poaching cases by trial court, only to be acquitted by the Rajasthan high court later.

Mohammed Arbaz, a 24-year-old fan from Malegaon, had travelled to Mumbai on Thursday morning on the assumption that Khan would be acquitted. Salman was sentenced to five years in prison by the Rajasthan High Court.

The Hindi film industry erupted with outrage with many of Salman's colleagues stressing that the actor had been punished because he was a star.

Khan pleaded not guilty and has long maintained his innocence as the case has languished in legal limbo over the years.
