Revealed: The full extent of Australia cheating - sticky-tape lies and how David Warner drove Cameron Bancroft to tamper with the ball

Australia’s Cameron Bancroft has said he has been charged with attempted ball-tampering after being spoken to by umpires about an object in his pocket during the third Test in South Africa

"This will allow Cricket Australia to complete a full review into the culture of the team and allow them to implement changes to regain the trust of the Australian public", he said. I will regret this for the rest of my life.

"I hope in time I can earn back respect and forgiveness", he said. Cricket is my life and hope it can be again.

"I am sorry. What happened in Cape Town has already been laid down by Cricket Australia".

Smith's fall from grace has been dramatic, and fast.

Under Lehmann, Australia have played 57 Tests so far [Jo'burg game will be the 58th], winning 30 of them - including two home Ashes series victories. "It completely compromises my values as a player and as a person".

"As a coach you feel for them as people", added Lehmann.

The investigation found that the plan to use sandpaper was cooked up by his deputy, David Warner who instructed and demonstrated to his rookie opening partner, Cameron Bancroft how to scuff-up the ball.

Arthur, who has also coached South Africa and is now in charge of Pakistan, feels the team's environment made such an incident inevitable, but he hopes it can finally bring about the change needed. "I apologise for my part and take responsibility for it", Warner wrote.

"It's been happening for a few days, and you think you can keep going, but the amount of abuse or whatever word you want to lose just takes its toll, everyone has their views out there, but they made a mistake, and we need to get the game back on track", Lehmann said.

Captain Smith and vice-captain Warner were stripped of their leadership positions and banned for 12 months, while Bancroft was suspended for nine months.

Cricket Australia can come in over the top of the ICC to impose more heavy sanctions on any of those involved in the ball-tampering affair - in which youngster Cameron Bancroft was caught red-handed with some makeshift sandpaper used to rough up one side of the ball and encourage reverse swing.

Authorities also needed to act decisively to counter mounting concern from sponsors over reputation damage.

Smith has also been barred from playing in IPL 2018.

Former captain Steven Smith and former vice-captain David Warner have been banned for a year and.

Sutherland said: "I want to stress that we are contemplating significant sanctions in each case".

Additionally, while Smith can't take up a captaincy role for Australia until a year after his ban gets over, Warner will never be considered for a role.

Lehmann, who has been cleared of any involvement in the plot which led to Bancroft using sandpaper to scratch the surface of the ball before hiding the evidence down his pants, told reporters that the three players are "not bad people".

It added that Smith had continued to try to cover up the cheating plot by issuing "misleading public comments regarding the nature, extent and participants of the plan".

He said it had been hard on Smith, Warner and Bancroft and that CA would be providing support to the trio.

Smith initially cleared Lehmann of any wrongdoing and put the blame on Australia's leadership group, however The UK's Telegraph reports the coach will stand down with "immediate effect" in the next 24 hours.

GROUNDS FOR APPEAL Better behaviour will be expected when Smith's replacement Tim Paine leads out the team in the fourth test in Johannesburg on Friday, looking to even up the series at 2-2 but most importantly start restoring the good name of Australian cricket.
