11-year-old girl gives passionate speech at March for Our Lives: 'Black girls and women have been just numbers'

While millions marched for their lives, these folks marched for their guns

"I'm here to progress into the future with safer schools", said Coeur dAlene High School sophomore Emily Romanowski, whose big sister, Ashley, helped organize the march.

Then the protesters, holding signs including "Enough is Enough", "We're the Change", "Gun violence hurts" and "I am a Teacher NOT a Security Guard", walked all the way to the midtown Manhattan.

At the close of the event, Lake City High School and Kootenai Bridge Academy senior Dakotah Andrews performed a heartrending original song.

"We want to take fear out of the classroom", said Arielle Bauer, a sophomore at Groves High School in Birmingham, Michigan.

STANDING before crowds from here to Los Angeles to Parkland, Florida, the speakers - almost all of them students, some in elementary school - delivered an anguished and defiant message: they are "done hiding" from gun violence and will "stop at nothing" to get politicians to prevent it.

One of them says, "There should be a #Background Check before the NRA is allowed to buy a Senator".

She pointed out that gun violence disproportionate affects women and people of color.

During March for Our Lives, Robinson said she felt a sense of fullness, seeing others who were as passionate about the issue as she was. "It's hard because you wonder if they care more about protecting their guns than they do about protecting their kids".

Lampkin appreciated the chance to speak on behalf of the St. Louis community and broadcast her message to a large audience.

"Politicians: Either represent the people or get out".

"I have a dream that enough is enough", she said, referencing her grandfather's famous 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech on ending racism. "I'm here for her".

The two students and the group they were with were peaceful for the most part as they marched near the National Gallery of Art, but were engaging in tense arguments with people around them.

Organizers of the march have requested 14 Jumbotrons, 2,000 chairs and 2,000 public restrooms.

"Throughout this whole experience, I was thinking, 'I can't believe this is my hometown". People have said that I am a tool of some nameless adult. A number of celebrities, including actor George Clooney and musician Paul McCartney, who spoke about the shooting death of bandmate John Lennon at a march in New York City, have supported the movement.

The student-led protests, which were started by the survivors of the Parkland, Fla. school shooting, called for stronger gun control laws and aimed to pressure lawmakers into enact real legislative change surrounding gun reform. "But knowing that this is all because of people from my hometown just holds a lot of weight".
