Women are more susceptible to various kidney diseases mentioned above but the value of our kidneys is not superior for any gender. The activities culminate with the annual Celebrity Sports Day on March 11 at the Vigie Sports Complex, and we're extremely excited about our sports day this year because again, it's all about the women. Preeclampsia, septic abortion (infection of the placenta) and post-partum haemorrhage (major bleeding after giving birth) are leading causes of acute kidney injury in young women, and may herald future CKD in survivors. In the USA, that gap is even wider, where living kidney donors are 63 per cent female and 37 per cent male.

Reed is alive today because of a living donor.

The consultant said factors such as pregnancy induced hypertension, unwanted pregnancies resulting to abortion, and auto-immune diseases put women at risk of kidney disease.

Despite more than 500 kidney transplants undertaken every year in Chennai, a large number of patients suffering from kidney diseases lacks clinical support to cure chronic kidney disease (CKD) due to the rising incidence of diabetes, hypertension and obesity.

He, therefore, advised women of reproductive age and those pregnancy to register in a health facility to be well monitored during pregnancy.

According to World Health Organization stats, kidney disease is more likely to develop in obese people including in those with diabetes and hypertension.

Latha A. Kumaraswami, managing trustee of the Foundation, said awareness programmes were a joint effort of the International Federation of Kidney Foundation and the International Society of Nephrology. "And with that money we use it to help prevent new patients from coming onto dialysis, and to assist those who are already on dialysis".

This disease results in the loss of kidney function over a span of months or years.

It would be the first of three transplants over the years.

Dr. Tinckam said that women face additional barriers while waiting to be matched with a kidney donor.

Jones will be honored by the National Kidney Foundation for her life's work as a patient advocate. In India, it is becoming one of the main causes of death.

"My mom told me everybody ran when she got sick".

"Really at the end of the day I have to thank my sister", she said. "I don't think I'm that old - I'd like to live a little longer and I'd like to see my grandchildren grow up". Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects 195 million women worldwide and now is the 8th leading cause of death in women.

With an annual death rate of 19·2 deaths per 100,000 population, chronic kidney disease was ranked 17th among the causes of deaths globally in 2015, as per the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study.

Queen Alexandra Hospital (QA) in Portsmouth is a place that Debbie described as the "umbrella and the main unit for Sussex that treats kidney disease".

CKD is not limited to a particular demographic, but is more likely to develop in women and especially prevalent in people with Asian, African, or other ethnic minority backgrounds. Kidney disease is also linked to complications with pregnancy: women who have CKD are at increased risk for negative outcomes in pregnancy, both for the mother and the baby; in turn, pregnancy-related complications can increase the risk of kidney disease [1].
