An Israeli military judge on Tuesday ordered a closed-door hearing for 16-year-old Palestinian teen Ahed al-Tamimi, according to local media. He says if the trial raises her profile, its a price that needs to be paid.

Tamimi, who turned 17 years old in prison last month, has been imprisoned since December for what Israel says was a series of offenses that included assault and incitement to violence.

He said the move was meant to protect Ahed's privacy as a minor, but it came despite the fact that the teenager's lawyer, Gaby Lasky, said her client was willing to waive this right.

Aheds charges date back nearly two years, to when she was 15. She could be sentenced to years in prison. If charged as an adult, she could face 10 years in prison.

The Palestinians, who claim Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem as their capital, saw Trump's announcement as unfairly taking sides with Israel. Tamimi was taken into custody in the middle of the night by Israeli forces three days after video footage was released of Tamimi's altercation with soldiers.

"The court decided what is best for the court, and not what is good for Ahed", she said.

Ahed Tamimi has participated in such marches from a young age, and has had several highly publicized run-ins with soldiers. The two drove into Jenin Monday afternoon, where theywere assaulted by a violent mob which attempted to break into their auto.

The case has triggered a debate between those who see the girl as an icon of resistance and others who perceive her simply as an attention-seeking youth.

Israeli officials argue Tamimi's family has long exploited the girl to provoke IDF soldiers. He also said Israel has no respect for worldwide law and acts with impunity because of its "power". "This is also an important message".

Human rights groups said her case highlighted what they've described as Israel's harsh treatment of Palestinian minors.

Later that day, Ahed confronted Israeli soldiers when they forced themselves into the courtyard of her family's home. "She is a minor whose detention requires continued public criticism".

Jim Fitzpatrick, an Irish artist famed for his iconic two-toned painting of Che Guevara, painted her as Wonder Woman.

Bassem Tamimi sits in Ahed Tamimi's bedroom holding a poster of his daughter, in their home in the occupied West Bank village of Nabi Saleh, 28 January. "This is a kid, a child", he told the news website. "He was more serious, more thoughtful, considering my questions before firing back, and also more inquisitive, asking me far more questions for a change", the editor wrote.

Israel charges that she has much of the time been utilized as a prop in filmed and arranged quarrels with Israeli soldiers in the West Bank.
