Sadio Mane bagged a Champions League hat-trick as Liverpool put FC Porto to the sword with a comprehensive 5-0 victory at Estadio Do Dragao on Wednesday.

The Senegal star grabbed all the headlines after his brilliant treble helped the Reds sink Porto 5-0 away in their Champions League last-16 first-leg tie.

The visitors were two ahead before the half-hour as Salah made it 30 for the season, becoming the first Liverpool player to reach that figure since Luis Suarez in 2013-14.

Mane opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a shot which slipped through goalkeeper Jose Sa's hands and Salah struck four minutes later to take his tally to 30 this season in all competitions.

Last season, Zinedine Zidane's Real became the first team to retain the Champions League and won La Liga for the first time since 2012. "We've played them twice and that's the highest level", he said via Mail.

The game also took place on Valentines Day, although there was definitely no love in the air as a rampant Sadio Mane scored a hattrick to take the game away from the opposition. It fell to Salah who is in such an incredible vein of form that he had time and then more time to score.

Otavio came up with the game's first good chance, almost putting Porto ahead in the 10th minute, but his early chance was blocked by Dejan Lovren and put out for a corner, which amounted to nothing.

But with a second leg still to come, Wijnaldum believes that both teams will still have plenty to play for in the second leg - regardless of the outcome in Portugal.

"Last season, PSG against Barcelona - everybody already thought that Barcelona was out [after the first leg] but they still changed it". James Milner stuck the post and Salah was quick to catch the rebound and dispatch it past the Porto keeper after controlling the ball in three touches with his head, body and foot.

Firmino converted another swift counter from the Reds 11 minutes later as he steered Milner's square pass into the bottom-left corner of the net from 12 yards out.

The Reds then delivered a scintillating second-half with Roberto Firmino and a further two from Mane, the latter a superb long-range strike from the edge of the box.

"We didn't expect this".

Liverpool deserve the plaudits for producing a comprehensive display at one of Europe's most hard venues. "We are not going to hide. we represent a great club and we have to honour the shirt".
