Utica's Erin Hamlin named Olympic flag bearer for Team USA
As the games kicked off Friday - when Davis skipped the opening ceremony because of his training schedule, according to a U.S. Speedskating spokesman - he was being decried and dismissed by many on social media who look to the Olympics as an escape from real-world issues.
Erin Hamlin has been given the honor of being flag bearer for Team USA.
Hamlin and Davis were the two finalists for the flag bearer position (among eight nominees).
Davis has even tried to create a viral controversy by using hashtags for Black History Month and the Olympics to ensure as many people as possible would see his tweets.
"I'm kind of looking at it as we have that happy-sad mix, because you know it's the last one", said Eileen Hamlin, Erin's mother.

Hamlin is no stranger to history.
Bronze medalist Hamlin was awarded the flag over Shani Davis by the toss of a coin, angering the twice Olympic champion speed skater who became the first black athlete to claim an individual medal in 2006.
Eilleen and fellow moms Sue Sweeney (Emily is on the women's team) and Marty Mazdzer (son Chris won a silver medal in men's singles on Sunday) have an active Twitter account called Luge Moms, too.
A United States speedskating spokesman said Davis had not originally planned to march in yesterday's parade of nations, but would have made an exception if he had been chosen as flag-bearer. "It's a big privilege to represent Team USA", she added.
Bearing the flag in the Opening Ceremony would put her in an exclusive club of athletic greats including Michael Phelps and Scott Hamilton.
The Opening Ceremony celebrates the official start of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang.
The people spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on behalf of Davis.
In 2009 Hamlin placed 1st at the FIL World Luge Championships.
"She definitely deserved that honor and she carried it with pride".
'Some immigrants too lazy to sign up for DACA'
A California judge issued a similar nationwide order requiring the Trump administration to continue the DACA program last month. Republicans and Democrats spent part of Tuesday fighting over which proposals would be brought up for initial Senate votes.
Israel, Iran and the war for Syria
Moreover, capitulation to Israel's policy would have repercussions for Hezbollah and Iran's ability to embolden its ally. Loss of F-16 was confirmed by Israeli authorities.
