South Korean Prime Minister to meet North Korean delegation

State Dept. calls North Korea military parade a 'dog and pony show'

Pence awkwardly avoids North Korean delegation at Olympics

As 12 of those athletes in the unified ice hockey team took to the ice for the warm-up at Kwandong Hockey Centre, the cheering squad arrived, later dancing along with western music performed by two South Korean rappers.

This difference of opinion was on full display during the Winter Olympics's opening ceremonies.

Pence is viewing the short-track competition, in which eight Americans are participating.

"I would love the team to get the Nobel Peace Prize", Ruggiero, an Olympic gold medallist and a member of the IOC's powerful Executive Board said a day after the unified Korean team competed at the Pyeongchang Olympics.

The missive was delivered by Kim's visiting sister Kim Yo-jong, who said he was willing to meet "at the earliest date possible", a spokesman for South Korea's presidential palace said.

Meanwhile, the DPRK media also lashed out at U.S. Vice President Mike Pence for his "anti-DPRK activities" when he was attending the opening ceremony, which Pyongyang said were aimed at disturbing the Olympics.

Showing a flair for the dramatic, Kim Yo Jong carried a blue folder with a personal letter from her brother, carefully placing it on a table where the delegation sat across from Moon and his aides.

In the meeting with North Korean officials, Moon stressed the need for the communist North to resume dialogue with the United States.

He also suggested that North Korea should engage in talks with the United States.

"But we're gonna make it crystal clear that our military, the Japanese self-defense forces, our allies here in South Korea, all of our allies across the region, are, are fully prepared to defend our nations and to take what is - action is necessary to defend our homeland", he said. On his way to Asia earlier this week, the USA vice president told reporters he was not seeking direct talks with North Korean officials, "but we'll see what happens".

The discussions from Saturday's meeting weren't immediately released.

The level of the delegation has become the highest since the end of the Korean War.

The officials toasted with the Korean liquor "soju" and were served buckwheat and potato pancakes, dried pollock soup, grilled halibut and other dishes.

This item corrects that Kim Yo Jong is the leader's sister.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has been using the Games in his efforts to re-engage with the North and to pave the way for talks over the North's weapons programme.

North Korea's state news agency said on Sunday its delegation sent to the Winter Olympics held "frank and candid" talks with South Korean President Moon Jae-in but there was no mention of the North's invitation to Moon to Pyongyang for a summit.
