South Africa vs India: Fourth ODI squads, preview, and predictions

Proteas Pink Day ODI record under pressure

India hold an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the six-match series but Kohli said his team were still looking for ways to improve.

The hosts in Johannesburg chased down a revised target of 202, ultimately easily, after David Miller was bowled off a no-ball and used his life to crack a match-turning 39 from 28 balls.

The Indian bowlers dominated South African batsmen in the initial stages. Chahal, on the other hand, was taken on from outside the off-stump and as a result bowled at the stumps more to Klaasen, only to be plundered for more runs.

Shikar Dhawan (109) and Kohli (75) soon got used to the pace and worked skilfully together to see off South Africa's all-pace attack and then work hard on building a massive partnership, at a good tempo.

The noticeable feature of his match-turning knock was the manner in which he dealt with the seemingly indomitable wrist spinners.

Hashim Amla went on to make 33 prior to becoming Kuldeep's second victim, while AB de Villiers stuck an 18-ball 26 before he was caught by Rohit at long leg off the bowling of Hardik Pandya. South Africa upheld its record of never losing a Pink Day ODI and defeated India by 5 wickets. It was Heinrich Klaasen's 27-ball unbeaten 43 and Andile Phehlukwayo's 23 off five balls that helped South Africa register their first win in the series. Ironically, it was after he was bowled neck and crop by Yuzvendra Chahal, off a no-ball, that he unfurled his full and devastating power.

Earlier, Dhawan shared a 158-run second-wicket stand with Kohli after opener Rohit Sharma was dismissed early on. India were 200/2 in 34.2 overs when the umpires deemed it unsafe for play to continue and called for the covers.

Toss: India won the toss and chose to BAT first.

There was also almost an hour's interruption during India's innings.

Kohli stamped his authority as he continued to punish the South African bowlers. Both Deepti and Veda registered their respective eighth fifties in ODI cricket. It feels better than scoring a hundred to win a game for your country, especially after being quite disappointed with my debut. Part-time Jean-Paul Duminy delivered four overs of spin but, expectedly, didn't look like taking a wicket. Kohli will hope his team get their A game back on in the next ODI because this certainly wasn't it.

India's march was halted by lightening with dark clouds hovering over the New Wanderers Stadium. Rabada and Lungi Ngidi returned 2/58 and 2/58 respectively. But the 72-run partnership between the two came off just 43 balls and changed the complexion of the game in quick time. They lost all wickets and scored only 286 runs. When New Zealand looked on track, for example, to chase down India's 337 in Kanpur previous year, Bumrah bowled overs 46, 48 and 50 and won India the match even thought it had seemed earlier that the overs bowled by Chahal and Hardik Pandya were already putting matters beyond a Bumrah spell.
