North and South Korea march as one in powerful moment during Winter Olympic opening ceremony

During the parade of nations, they stood only for the U.S. team.

The vice president was supposed to sit across from the North Korean head of state at the dinner, but reportedly showed up late and was not able to be seated.

The Trump impersonator was identified as American Dennis Alan, while the Kim Jong Un impersonator is from Australia.

Aides did not immediately say whether the invitation was discussed as the two sat next to each other viewing several race heats Saturday.

It would be the first summit in more than a decade between Korean leaders. It took three tries for a man on skis to stop it, all captured for posterity in slow motion.

"It was a very emotional moment to get finally there after many years of hard work and many negotiations still taking place here", the German said the morning after the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Winter Games.

"Athletes from the two countries entered the PyeongChang Olympic stadium together, joined hands, and marched under the Korean Unification flag, which displays the entire Korean peninsula in blue against a white backdrop".

"Kim Jong Un of North Korea is utilizing this Olympics politically to advertise as if the South and North Korea are in peace".

Washington and Tokyo are concerned that Seoul's conciliatory stance toward Pyongyang could endanger trilateral cooperation on bolstering pressure against North Korea, and could give the country more time to develop nuclear weapons.

The UN chief also extended his appreciation and pride to be at the Winter Olympics and highlighted the cooperation between UN and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as well as the values for which the IOC and its sister organisation, the International Paralympic Committee, stand. Multiple media outlets suggest that the leftist Moon government is expecting a direct message from Kim Jong-un through his sister.

Yonhap, a South Korean newswire service, first confirmed that the two met at the Opening Ceremony.

However, analyst Robert E Kelly of Pusan National University tweeted that the inter-Korean relations would "return to form".

"Due to impromptu logistical changes it (drone deployment) did not proceed", the IOC spokesman said with elaborating further.

According to the BBC, Pence also skipped a dinner where he was "due to share a table with North Korea's ceremonial head of state Kim Yong-nam".

Five of the Americans have come to defend Olympic gold medals they won at the Sochi Winter Games of 2014: Jamie Anderson (snowboarding slopestyle); Maddie Bowman (freestyle skiing halfpipe); Ted Ligety (alpine skiing giant slalom); Mikaela Shiffrin (alpine skiing slalom); and David Wise (freestyle skiing halfpipe).

The officials toasted with the Korean liquor "soju" and were served buckwheat and potato pancakes, dried pollock soup, grilled halibut and other dishes.

Korean chances were few and they managed just eight shots on goal.

Hwang Dae-Heon, South Korea: Hwang was deemed a "virtual unknown" when he made the South Korean Olympic team, but the 18-year old has since established himself.

Pence avoided the North Korean official entirely.
