Did NASA pass up SpaceX offer for Falcon Heavy payload? Former NASA official raises questions

Tesla analyst: I don't trust Elon Musk's promises, but can't argue with the 'cool car thesis'

But Tesla hasn't crash-landed yet. That alone was an achievement, done in record time and with less than an hour of delay (due to winds) compared to the previously announced date and time.

Let's start with Wednesday's financials.

Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said a self-driving Tesla will attempt the trip from Los Angeles to NY in the next three to six months after missing the deadline he set for late 2017.

Wall Street doubts the better cash flow numbers are sustainable.

"That's different from the old model of the mainframe approach, when you have one big mainframe and if it goes down, the whole system goes down".

The big problem is Tesla's Model 3. The line is already working at Tesla's German manufacturing unit Grohmann but needs to be shipped to the USA next month to be put to use, Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said. "Impossible to say what is it but this doesn't mean we are seeing a UFO". Anticipation was high: At one point, Tesla had 500,000 pre-orders. Telsa still needs to automate the battery production.

But the Model 3 has not been cooperative.

Total Model 3 cars built last year were only 2,685, but if it achieves its weekly production rate of 2,500 cars a week by March 31, its USA sales could likely chew through the remaining supply of credits well before the end of the year.

"The technology that they are using for those boosters - to take off and land - is the technology that they are going to use to do that", he said.

Tesla's Model 3, the first attempt at a mass-market electric auto by the other company Musk runs, is also a vehicle ahead of its time.

The company posted revenue that topped targets.

In the fourth quarter of past year, Tesla deployed 143 MWh of energy storage products, growing 45% over Q4 2016.

There's no official word on what will happen to the Tesla now, although it is currently on a massive elliptical heliocentric orbit, where it will orbit the Sun for millions or billions of years until it hits something else-or until it gains sentience, becomes V'ger, and returns to Earth seeking its creator.

Tesla just informed that the Tesla Model 3 I pre-ordered on launch day is not coming in 2018.

Tesla was founded in 2003.

"We expect investors will remain split on results and that shares will trade sideways as bulls remain patient on Model 3 production". Its net loss increased to $675.4 million, or $4.01 per share, for the fourth quarter ended December 31 from $121.3 million, or 78 cents per share, in the same period a year earlier.

We're still in the middle of that second cycle of losses-then-profits. Revised orbital data provided by SpaceX and shared with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory's system for tracking solar-system bodies showed the original graphic was incorrect.
