President Trump Signs Budget Deal, Ending Federal Government Shutdown

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer D-N.Y. left and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell R-Ky. walk to the chamber after negotiating an agreement in the Senate on a two-year almost $400 billion budget deal that would provide Pentagon and domest

Paul, a senator from Kentucky, said the overall budget bill that includes the stopgap measure would "loot the Treasury". However, Senate leaders anxious that if Paul was able to introduce an amendment other senators would make a similar demand, and with the government shutdown looming, a full-blown amendment process seemed out of the question.

Some fiscally-minded Republicans disapproved of the bill's increased spending, among them Sen.

"Now we have Republicans hand in hand with Democrats offering us trillion-dollar deficits", Paul said.

Senators voted 71-28 to approve the deal, easily overcoming objections from Republican fiscal conservatives who say the bill marks a return to unchecked deficit spending.

"Give us a chance to allay the fear that is in the hearts of these Dreamers and their families, and remove the tears from the Statue of Liberty observing what is happening here", she said.

It passed with a final vote of 240-186. They also sparked the 20th - and shortest - government shutdown since the 1970s.

Mr Paul objected to each request, all but assuring non-essential government operations will halt early Friday. "So please know that we are committed to getting this done". "We are in an emergency situation".

Trump, who said earlier this week he would "love" a government shutdown, was expected to sign the measure into law.

But the deal's fate in the House is far from certain.

Such optimistic assumptions would make deficits look smaller in Trump's budget plan after Republicans in December approved massive tax cuts expected to add about $1.5 trillion in new debt over a decade. The House will likely immediately take up the Senate's bill.

He calls the spending plan a "BIG VICTORY for our Military, but much waste in order to get Dem votes".

Although the budget was considered to be a fair compromise by the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the Senior Republican Senator from Kentucky and the Minority Leader Chuck Schumer the senior Democrat Senator from NY, it faced opposition by Rand.

Throughout the day Thursday, Republicans and Democrats in Congress remained at odds over the sweeping bipartisan budget deal that would boost spending on military and domestic priorities and increase the nation's debt limit but leave unaddressed the controversial status of young immigrants known as Dreamers.

Many Democrats oppose the budget proposal because it does not address the immigration issue, and the protections for illegal childhood arrivals (DACA) set up by the Obama administration are set to expire on March 5.

She said she wanted an assurance from Ryan that he would take up the issue of immigration in the coming weeks.

In response to the backlash surrounding the speech, the senator's communications director Sergio Gor told IJR: "Senator Paul will always stand up for what is right, regardless of which party is in control".
