Chris Ballard never tried to persuade Josh McDaniels to stay

Colts chaos can only help Texans in AFC South
Chris Ballard has pushed the reset button in his attempt at delivering the "right guy" to the Indianapolis Colts. But on the field since 2010, it's been no contest.
Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is 0-5 vs. the Patriots over the course of his career.
It gets worse-McDaniels had apparently already convinced a handful assistant coaches around the league to quit their current positions to join him in Indianapolis.
"I thought a lot about that but I was very confident", he said.
With that Ballard left the podium, leaving reporters and viewers to ponder the rekindling of the Colts-Patriots rivalry. When you have someone step out of line like the Patriots have done, it's going to come back to get you.
"There was no persuasion".
Sure, the idea that McDaniels spurned the Colts because of Deflategate is a sexy storyline that adds to all the drama, but more than anything, this was a business decision. As Ballard said, this can still work out in the best way possible.
Much has been said on either side with the Colts claiming the "rivalry" is back on but in reality, New England retaining McDaniels has nothing at all to do with Indy.
They may yet opt for another offensive mind in Frank Reich who is scheduled to interview on Friday, but watch out Frazier's name in relation to this job.
What becomes of that rat is of no concern to me, not anymore, now that he has removed himself from our city and saved the Colts from themselves. "But it's the mentally tough, gritty people that overcome these things that are successful. That is what we're going to be built on", Ballard said. We have a list of candidates. However, they had to start over considering in the first wave of interviews they were down to McDaniels and Mike Vrabel, and Vrabel is the Tennessee Titans' new coach. But that didn't stop them from announcing an introductory press conference for this week. If Belichick sticks around for, say, five more years, who's to say McDaniels won't have gotten another head coaching offer by then and follow through with it this time?
LaMonte confirmed the news to NFL.com, saying, "My word is my bond".
LaMonte, who is also Ballard's agent, has terminated his relationship with McDaniels, according to sources. The Colts said McDaniels informed them on Tuesday evening that he would not sign the deal.
Ballard noted McDaniels never asked to contact Luck.
