NBA trade deadline 2018 tracker: Latest rumors, news and player movement
A day after the Cavaliers overhauled their roster with a tornado of trades that ripped through the NBA, James didn't dwell on what's lost, who's no longer around or how much time Cleveland has left to salvage its season.
Say what you want about this Cleveland Cavaliers front office, but maligned GM Kobe Altman and even more maligned owner Dan Gilbert just pulled off an incredible trade-deadline face-lift that should only be viewed as an absolute A-plus for an organization that has clearly taken the control back from LeBron James.
One player caught in the crossfire was National Basketball Association journeyman Channing Frye, who was packaged along with Thomas and the Cavs' first round pick, and sent to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for guardJordan Clarkson and big man Larry Nance Jr.
While Paul George and LeBron James have been the two names most often bandied around, the Lakers have options for all of that cap space. They also got the chance to get rid of Nance, Jr - son of Cavaliers legend Larry Nance, Sr. - to make full breathing room for surprise stud rookie Kyle Kuzma.
ALL THAT JAZZ: It might take some doing for the Utah Jazz to climb all the way back into the playoff picture but they aren't going to go away quietly.
The benefits of Thomas here are two-fold. James is the best player in the world, and with that, you pretty much have to play by his rules, but you can only do so much when the best player on the team is an ongoing flight risk.
Replacing Thomas is a combination of Hill and Clarkson, two players who complement each other well. "I think with that, with those pieces we got in Boston, we were able to use that with value to get some of those pieces that I call fountains, that are going to add to the excitement of the building and add to the culture that I'm trying to establish".
Moving up the California map, we have the raging dumpster fire that is the Sacramento Kings.
George Hill is a veteran and is an upgrade from Thomas.
Cleveland later orchestrated a three-team deal with the Sacramento Kings and the Utah Jazz.
Ball, who remains the team's starting point guard, is averaging 10.2 points, 7.1 assists and 7.1 rebounds as a rookie, though he hasn't played since sustaining a knee injury January 13. He was also a member of the Cavaliers' 2016 NBA Championship team.
If I'm a Cavaliers fan this morning, I'm actually generally excited in seeing this new NEW team-Cavs 2.0-and will not miss the lack of energy and effort on defense, questionable and selfish ball-handling and bad shot selections by some of the departed.
Most of the moves outside Cleveland on Thursday were minor, for a few reasons. Dwayne Wade is simply too old to be the difference maker he once was. Will they even keep him around since Lonzo Ball is slated to return from his knee injury soon?
More props to them for fixing their roster accordingly after discovering the monstrous talent of Donovan Mitchell. They also acquired the impressive but inconsistent Rodney Hood. Jae Crowder hasn't been the best fit. There is a possibility that his previous hip injury is still bothering him. Clarkson will wear No. 8, Hood will wear No. 1 and Hill will wear No. 3, Thomas' former number.
Finally we arrive here at the moment of truth - the principal suspect of all this madness.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, who sit third in the Eastern Conference, play the Celtics in Boston Sunday afternoon. He's athletic, he can shoot it, he can defend and he's way better than [Jae] Crowder.
Arsenal sweating on Cech involvement in north London derby
I don't think Arsene Wenger can play the same tactics that stifle us as other lower table teams have done this season at Wembley . A win here will take them to only a point off their north London rivals and back in the race for a top-four spot.
Stock losses deepen in midday trading
But, he says, there are still valid concerns weighing on the market. "The fundamentals in terms of the long term are very strong". Do you think Dow Jones volatility can mirror that of cryptocurrency markets? "It is now up 187 points so we are back up today".
