South, North Korean Athletes March Together at Olympic Opening Ceremony

At a glittering but sub-zero ceremony, South and North Korea brought the crowd to its feet as they entered behind the blue-and-white Korean unification flag.
Ahead of the reception, hosted by South Korean President Moon Jae-in, South Korean media said Pence was expected to be seated opposite Kim Yong Nam, North Korea's nominal head of state, at the 12-seat head table.
"I'm happy to say that for NBC's coverage of every Olympic Games since that time, NEP's support team of managers and engineering specialists has been an integral part of this successful, longstanding partnership".
However, ski jumping star Sara Takanashi will be among 35 Japanese athletes who fearless the icy weather to march behind flag-bearer Noriaki Kasai, according to Olympic officials.
The torch was designed by South Korean artist Kim Young-se and was meant to ensure the flame will stay lit in various weather conditions, even South Korea's strong winds and heavy snow.
The North Korean delegation's arrival came a day after Kim Jong Un presided over a massive military parade in Pyongyang that was highlighted by the country's developmental intercontinental ballistic missiles, which in three flight tests a year ago showed potential ability to reach deep into the USA mainland when perfected.
Kim Yo Jong is the first of her family to visit South Korea in decades.
Each wore a stunning red coat with matching fur hats, collars and cuffs. Dozens of South Koreans at the airport tried to snap photographs of her on their mobile phones.
A focus on diplomacy comes as a striking contrast to the last six months of the crisis over North Korea's unsanctioned nuclear program, which saw threats of war lobbed back and forth between Kim Jong Un and President Trump.

Added teammate Matt Antoine, who was marching in his second athletes parade, "It's that one moment where you're the spotlight of the entire ceremony".
The athletes' parade included a majority of the remaining 168-strong squad of Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation, a three-strong Bermudan delegation who briefly thought they were being courageous wearing shorts, and the Tongan Pita Taufatofua, now reinvented as a cross-country skier, who did it again, this time choosing to foolhardishly bare his oiled-up torso in the less-than-tropical conditions of sub-zero South Korea.
Underlining Moon's efforts to re-engage with the North, the opening ceremony followed the story line of children wandering through a mythical landscape and discovering a world where people live in peace and harmony.
"I think any opportunity we have to celebrate the men and women of the armed forces of the United States is a great day", Pence said, supporting Trump's request to plan a military parade.
After the 2006 Olympics in Turin, a string of injuries kept him sidelined from major short track competitions and before the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada's Vancouver he failed to qualify for the South Korean national team.
Athletes from the 93 countries marched to the beat of K-pop songs, which also included global sensation boy band BTS" "DNA'.
Kim and the North Korean leader's sister are scheduled to hold a meeting with Moon on Saturday.
