Brian Dawkins, Terrell Owens Are In The Pro Football Hall Of Fame
Urlacher and Lewis, the two best linebackers of their era and Owens and Moss, the two best receivers cap off years of comparisons and debate with simultaneous Hall of Fame induction.
Moss was one of the league's most dominant receivers in history, ranking both fourth all-time in touchdowns (157) and receiving yards (15,292).
Lynch was a finalist (among 15 modern-day players) for the fifth time but had less support from the 47 voters this year as he failed to survive the first cut to 10 players Saturday.
Randy Moss will enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame after having played for five teams. However, the 49ers finished as one of the hotter teams in the National Football League and went on to win six of their final seven games, including three consecutive wins against playoff teams (Titans, Jaguars, Rams). But a messy divorce with the franchise (he seemed to have a lot of those in his career) led him to Philadelphia, where he played for two seasons under Andy Reid.
All that hard work, determination and overcoming all the hurdles and obstacles along the way can be an emotional journey and we saw an emotional reaction from several of the newest members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday night.
Dawkins is the only defensive player in history - at any position - with more than 25 interceptions (37), sacks (26) and forced fumbles (36). They are trying to join the other six Miami Hurricanes in the Hall of Fame.
They'll learn their fate tonight, along with receiver Randy Moss, who spent the second half of the 2010 season with the team. Two seniors committee nominees, linebacker Robert Brazile and guard Jerry Kramer, also got the call, as did Bobby Beathard, a former general manager of the Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers. I've never seen an offensive lineman with more agility than Kevin.
He had 982 catches for 15,292 yards and ranks second all time with 156 touchdown receptions.
Brian Urlacher was taken in the first round of the 2000 draft, and he too played his entire career (13 seasons) with the Chicago Bears. The former Eagle turned Denver Bronco was known for being a big-hit safety who became the source of strength in the Eagles Super Bowl run in 2004. Lewis won two Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year awards and one Super BowlMost Valuable Player Award for the Baltimore Ravens, and Urlacher won a Defensive Player of the Year award, too. It was a strong year for wide receivers with Terrell Owens and Randy Moss also among the finalists, which made it even more hard for Bruce to get in.
