Yesterday's march marks an anniversary which infuriates anti-abortion activists - the Supreme Court's historic ruling on "Roe v. Wade", which legalised the procedure across the United States in 1973.
Roe v. Wade was decided on January 22, 1973, and the March For Life was born on January 22, 1974, to oppose it.
The film was inspired by a US Supreme Court decision that affirmed the legality of a woman's right to have an abortion under the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution.
Vice President Mike Pence, who addressed last year's March for Life in person at Trump's request, introduced the president as the "most pro-life president in American history", for among other things issuing an executive memorandum shortly after his inauguration to reinstate the "Mexico City Policy". The event on Facebook said it will be family-friendly. Mancini said she thinks the marchers, majority young because of the prevalence of school groups in attendance, should send a message of support to the president.
"Why is the pro-life movement on the rise?"
Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, talked up his legislation to ban abortions whenever a heartbeat can be detected.
"No one should be forced to choose between helping sick people and living by one's deepest moral or religious convictions, and the new division will help guarantee that victims of unlawful discrimination find justice", said Severino.
Trump is the first sitting president to speak to the March for Life rally via live video address. "Medicaid dollars should go to local community health centers serving women - not the scandal-ridden billion-dollar abortion industry".
"I strongly supported the House of Representatives pain-capable bill, which would end painful, late-term abortions nationwide", said the president in front of the massive crowd.
But instead of focusing on the message of respecting life first and trying to make the speech about the movement, which he said was "born out of love", he used the speech to talk about himself. "It protects the life of those babies who suffer from failed abortions", he told the attendees.
About 50 demonstrators staged their own rally outside the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum rather than joining the main rally on the National Mall, to protest Trump's address.
According to Life Site News, the film opens with Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger delivering a speech to the Ku Klux Klan about her intention to reduce the growth of the African-American population.
"This will free up states to once again decide for themselves what reasonable standards may be appropriate", said Charmaine Yoest, the top spokeswoman for HHS and previously a prominent abortion opponent. "And it was a fetus that was not going to survive outside of the womb, and I think there are so many stories like that".
Trump has said he hopes Roe v. Wade will eventually be overturned and that each state will instead be allowed to decide whether to ban it.
