Alisha Laventure, the daughter of Haitian immigrants and a TV news anchor in Dallas, delivered a powerful rebuttal to President Trump's infamous comments in an Oval Office meeting on Thursday.

African Union countries have demanded that Donald Trump "retract and apologise" for comments reportedly referring to African nations as "shitholes".

Sens. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) and Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) had proposed cutting the visa lottery program by 50 percent and then prioritizing countries already in the system, a White House official said.

Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, who was there, told reporters yesterday that Mr Trump used "vile, vulgar" language. Trump also reportedly suggested the US should take immigrants from countries such as Norway, whose prime minister he met with the previous day.

Trump lashed out Thursday about a potential deal on immigration that includes protections for Haitians and for people from some African nations.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was equally critical of her onetime rival in last year's presidential campaign and the USA ambassador to Panama has tendered his resignation amid the ongoing scandal.

"Racism is just a word that is being bandied about and the president unjustly", she said. "It's frightening to have someone in the White House with this kind of ignorance and lack of compassion. There is no other word but "racist". "It is a nation that helped keep America free at a time when we were very weak", said Young. Mahama's tweet used an altered image of an Oval Office meeting featuring Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to mock that mistake.

The reports prompted outrage and accusations of racism from people in the United States and the rest of the world. "Why do we need more Haitians?"

"With the statement that he made, it was very clear to us that there is a racial basis for those decisions, even going so far as racist", Labossiere said. "Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people", he said. "It's now, I think, our responsibility to say that his comments don't represent America", said Sen.

Al Jazeera's Kimberly Halkett, reporting from Washington, DC, said: "The calls for the president to apologise for his remarks are intensifying inside and outside the U.S., but for now, that apology does not appear likely".

Donald Trump's first presidential medical checkup "went exceptionally well", according to White House physician, Dr Ronny Jackson.

Another Republican, Representative Mia Love of Utah, is a child of Haitian immigrants.

Trump, who grew up in a Presbyterian family, shot back saying it was "disgraceful" for the pope to question his faith.
