Vermont Is On Its Way To Legalizing Marijuana

Sessions Unleashes the Hounds on Pro-Pot States

Attorney General Jeff Sessions attends a Cabinet meeting with President Donald Trump Monday

Sessions is rescinding the Obama-era policy of federal non-interference with states such as Nevada, California, Colorado and others where voters have opted to legalize marijuana use and sales.

This move by Sessions' comes just as the city of Lansing has begun to create tighter restrictions on it's marijuana industry and as the state of MI is working to improve as well.

While recreational marijuana is not yet legal in Florida, lawmakers have introduced a bill to decriminalize small amounts of pot throughout the state.

"The money is going everywhere and rightly or wrongly, we need that money to take care of the people in our state", Rivers said.

Medical marijuana has been legal in California since 1996 and legal recreational use went into effect on January 1 - both laws ratified by voters via referendums.

The new positions this year are being made possible through a reallocation of resources, he said. It makes no more sense for the federal government to prohibit marijuana nationwide than when it prohibited alcohol - although at least in the latter case proponents of prohibition had the decency to obtain a constitutional amendment to do so. Coats was a US attorney under former President Barack Obama when the marijuana guidelines took effect.

Senator Dean Heller said, "knowing Attorney General Sessions' deference to states' rights, I strongly encourage DOJ to meet with Governor Sandoval and [Nevada] Attorney General Laxalt to discuss the implications of changes to federal marijuana policy". "The state police aren't taking anyone's guns away". "The administration believes this is the wrong decision and will review any potential impacts from any policy changes by the local U.S. Attorney's office".

Attorney General Jeff Sessions' pot stance is at odds with the majority of Americans as well as at least some Republicans.

"We see the future as business as usual", said Kelly Jackson, owner of Canna4Life in Clarkston.

Sessions' action will allow federal prosecutors in those states to determine how aggressively to enforce the laws.

Washington is one of eight states that allow recreational marijuana. He added, "I'm not even considering that".

It's not yet clear how the Justice Department will now operate without a policy of non-enforcement, which had deferred policy on marijuana to the states. Paul said Thursday that he spoke with U.S. Sen.

There is confusion about what Ohio's medical marijuana program will look like after big news out of Washington. President Donald Trump hasn't nominated a replacement. "For Sessions to really cut the legs out of all those programs is unconscionable".

"We live in an odd time when the attorney general of the United States is criticized for simply enforcing federal law", Lankford said.

The department issued a statement on Thursday outlining its stance on federal marijuana enforcement policy, telling all USA attorneys to enforce the Controlled Substances Act, a law on the books since 1970 which classifies marijuana as an illegal drug. Since the passage of the Controlled Substances Act in 1970, Congress has generally prohibited the cultivation, distribution, and possession of marijuana.

The laws against marijuana were democratically passed and enacted: they should be enforced, as all laws are supposed to be.
