Federal judge puts temporary block on Trump's decision to end DACA

Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart, a Florida Republican working on an immigration deal, described Kelly, who he got to know as command of Southern Command, based in Florida, described him as a person of "unparalleled integrity and courage".

Of the 70 security points included in the Trump administration's immigration wish list sent to Congress in October, half - 35 - are not included in Goodlatte's bill.

Other administration officials remaininvolved in immigration, including Miller, Marc Short, director of legislative affairs and DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, according to the White House.

President Donald Trump reportedly lashed out in a Thursday meeting with lawmakers about immigration reform, demanding to know why the United States should accept citizens from what he called "sh*thole" countries. Some want big reductions in legal immigration, too.

Consider other complicating factors.

The New York Times reports that migrant shelters - which help provide assist to people who have just illegally crossed - are filling up as the number of crossings again rose to 2014 levels under former President Barack Obama.

The bill, though, does not include numerous attributes desired by vocal dreamer activists.

All of this started, of course, with Obama. "A lot of people are coming in that we can't have", Trump added. He then chose to legalize the dreamers.

Ultimately, the meeting concluded with a two-phase solution that pairs a DACA bill with funds for the wall and punts comprehensive immigration reform to Congress at a later date.

"We have different groups working on it right now". There are technical issues here, but it makes you wonder if someone will someday say it is OK to bypass activist courts.

Democrats have repeatedly said that they will block any legislation that contains funding for the border wall with Mexico - a key campaign pledge of Mr Trump's. It would be impractical and there are technological answers that would be more effective and cheaper. He bashed both the changes Democrats offered on current visa programs as well as the deal to do a full DREAM Act. "I think the message has now been delivered that we need to get everybody at the table and we'll take the best of their ideas".

In September, Trump said he was scrapping the DACA programme but delayed enforcement to give Congress six months -until March -to craft a lasting solution.

If it's the former, he's going to have to disappoint Tom Cotton; if the latter, he'll need to tell 700,000 people who grew up in the United States, lived by its laws, and contributed to its prosperity that this isn't their country anymore. We're going to end the visa lottery program.

The judicial ruling could upend all of this.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democratic Senator Dick Durbin came to the White House to outline their bipartisan compromise, but found themselves in the room with several Republican immigration hardliners.

COULTER: His only hope is to be pedal to the metal, fulfill his promises, build the wall, end chain migration.
