African politicians and diplomats labelled US President Donald Trump a racist on Friday (local time) after he was reported to have described some immigrants from Africa and Haiti as coming from "s***hole" countries.

Durbin said people who would be allowed to stay in the US included those who had fled here after disasters hit their homes in places such as El Salvador, Guatemala and Haiti.

Trump mentioned each of those nations and regions while discussing immigration policy on Jan 11, according to NBC News.

African UN ambassadors and the African Union have called for "a retraction and an apology" from Donald Trump after the U.S. president reportedly described them as "s***hole" countries.

More than half of the state's African and El Salvadoran populations live in either Hartford or New Haven counties, while most of the Haitian population lives in Fairfield County, as do most of the state's Norwegians.

"African countries, and sometimes our leaders, do not exactly deal with the problems of the worst-off, that's what makes people immigrate".

"This was not the language used", Trump said in a tweet.

"These are shocking and shameful comments from the President of the United States". Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and David Perdue, R-Ga. - said Friday that they "do not recall" Trump "saying these comments specifically".

When asked how his uncle would have responded to Trump's comments on Thursday, Farris Jr. said that he would have urged Trump "not to refer to African countries like that".

But Trump and his advisers notably did not dispute the most controversial of his remarks: using "shithole" to describe African nations and saying he would prefer immigrants from countries like Norway instead.

"Haitians fought along USA soldiers in the Revolutionary War, and we continue to be great contributors to American society", Altidor added. "They [Republicans] don't believe in immigration - it's always been about people of color and keeping them out of this country", he added.

"Following comments by the President, I said my piece directly to him yesterday".

"That's when he used these vile and vulgar comments".

Trump addressed Haiti, but said nothing about his reported comments on Africa.

"The president is in excellent health and I look forward to briefing some of the details on Tuesday", Dr. Ronny Jackson said, in a statement shared by White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. I could write about the beauty of the island, the music and vibrant art, the majesty of the mountains, the crystalline blue of the water surrounding her, the resilience of the Haitian people, our incredible work ethic, our faith. We have Haitians taking care of the American elderly. "But deservedly so. This is what happens if presidents say things that cross a line and go too far".

El Salvador's foreign ministry said the U.S. president had "implicitly" accepted the use of "harsh terms detrimental to the dignity of El Salvador and other countries".

He said the bill was a step backwards because it would force the United States "to take large numbers of people from high crime countries which are doing badly". "Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!"
