Trump-Russia Dossier Firm Is Still 'Digging' up Dirt on the President
Mr. Murphy said that both Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have acted in partisan ways throughout their investigation of the Russian collusion case.
Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson sat for 10 hours of interviews with the committee staff in August, but until Tuesday, the panel's Republican leaders had kept the transcript private. Simpson's lawyer interrupted questioning on that topic to explain that "Somebody's already been killed as a result of the publication of this dossier".
Senate judiciary committee chairman Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham said they had passed a classified memorandum to the DoJ relating to communications between Mr Steele and "multiple United States news outlets".
Fusion GPS was hired by a conservative donor in 2015 to investigate Mr Trump's background during the time he was running for the Republican presidential nomination. He added that when Steele met with an FBI official in September, the official told Steele the bureau "had other intelligence about this matter from an internal Trump campaign source". Feinstein released the transcript with the support of committee Democrats acting unilaterally. It makes sensational claims about years of Russian operations against President Donald Trump.
NPR has not detailed the material contained in the dossier because it remains unverified, but it describes a concerted effort by powerful Russians to cultivate a relationship with Trump and his camp. (The Post's Glenn Kessler cites a filing in a defamation claim: "The briefings involved the disclosure of limited intelligence regarding indications of Russian interference in the USA election process and the possible co-ordination of members of Trump's campaign team and Russian government officials.") Graham's conduct remains mystifying.
A lawyer for Fusion GPS could not be reached for comment. They simply said things like "our investigation is not complete", and continued their PR assault on this Trump-Russia narrative.
Dianne Feinstein just pulled an end-around on her GOP colleagues and released the full transcript of the testimony from the co-founder of the company behind the controversial dossier on then-candidate Donald Trump.
Senator Lindsey Graham, who made the criminal referral along with Senator Chuck Grassley, spoke about Steele on NBC's "Meet The Press" Sunday morning. "It was someone like us who chose to pick up the phone and report something", Simpson said.
But in the late stages of the 2016 presidential campaign, Steele broke off contact with the FBI, Simpson said, because he did not believe it was taking him seriously enough.
It is based on raw intelligence gathered by Steele on a wide-range of issues involving Trump from allegations of shady financial deals with Russians to salacious allegations from a Trump visit to Moscow.
A front-page New York Times article on October 31 about the Trump-Russia investigation said the FBI had found no conclusive link between Trump and Russia. They have also called for the release of the transcripts. FBI Director James Comey concluded the initial Clinton email investigation in July 2016, four months before the 2016 election.
In a statement, Fusion GPS said it "commends Sen".
