NFL playoffs: Titans-Chiefs, Falcons-Rams kick off wild-card weekend
The NFL and the players union have launched an official review to determine whether the Carolina Panthers followed the concussion protocol properly with quarterback Cam Newton during Sunday's NFC wild-card game vs. the Saints. We did enough as a team to lose that game, more so than the Saints did to win that game. We saw him rock back and forth. "We moved the ball pretty much at will the whole game".
The story of the New Orleans Saints' surprisingly successful season was the long-awaited emergence of the roster around Drew Brees, after the star quarterback had nearly single-handedly led New Orleans to so many successful campaigns in the past.
"We made enough plays, offensively", Saints coach Sean Payton said. Newton then drove them 48 yards after safety Mike Adams intercepted Drew Brees' pass at the Carolina 31 when the Saints gambled on fourth down just across midfield.
Following the game, Newton maintained he didn't suffer a head injury but was instead poked in the eye.
Chris Nowinski, founding CEO of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, took to Twitter to express his thoughts: "I can not believe the National Football League blew their new concussion protocol in the second week with Cam Newton. If he sends me his address, I can send him some sauce".
Cam Newton drove Carolina to a first down at the New Orleans 21, but after an incompletion he was pressured and called for intentional grounding.
"I think the vision for each player was clear", said Payton, who pointed out that New Orleans had to spend wisely because of salary-cap constraints.
"He said, 'do you want to go for it or punt?' I said, 'do you have a play you like?' and he said 'Yeah.' So, I said, 'let's go for it.' End of discussion".
"It sure is nice", Brees said. Their pass rush could be a factor against Minnesota QB Case Keenum, who's been sacked 17 times in Minnesota's last six games. "We knew what we had to do and it was on the receivers".
The Daily News reported that Newton was taken to the Panthers' medical tent and not the locker room.
The winning points came on a tension-packed fourth-down play, Bortles flipping a 1-yard touchdown pass to Ben Koyack with only 42 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Jordan has mocked the quarterback's play as well as his wardrobe at times, and he got the last laugh on the field with his team's three-game sweep over Carolina this season. They settled for four field goal attempts on those drives, one of which kicker Graham Gano surprisingly missed from 25-yards. "A little fazed? He definitely wasn't unfazed", Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan said - it didn't matter.
"We had a young defense that was still learning", Jordan said. Obviously, he came up with the touchdown at the touchdown catch as well. Drew Bree's threw for 376 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception on 23 of 33 passing, while Alvin Kamara led the team in rushing with 23 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
Apart from Sunday's win, the Saints also had two victories over Carolina back in the regular season.
Newton absorbed a hard hit by Saints defensive tackle David Onyemata on a sack.

He said he feels privileged to stand by the women fighting against the unnecessary evils that are happening in the industry. But it is the actual statements of some of the women who spoke at the Golden Globes , not what they wore, that mattered.

If it was not or tipped and dropped balls he would have had much better statistics against Jacksonville in that first game. Finney, who sustained thigh and ankle injuries in the regular-season finale against the Browns , was limited in practice.

Belichick 'absolutely' will coach Patriots in 2018
I believe Belichick sees small signs of decline in Brady but trusts that he can play at a high level for another season or two . The Patriots simply couldn't afford to sacrifice talent at all positions in order to keep Garoppolo as a backup.
