Christopher Columbus should have a national holiday, but it is our decision whether we celebrate him.
If you ask a New Yorker which monuments symbolize an immigrants introduction to this country, they'll quickly note two famous statues: the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor, and the statue of Columbus atop the landmark circle that bears his name. He's set to walk in the Columbus Day parade Monday, but was noticeably absent from the Columbus Dayparade in the Bronx on Sunday because the mayor was not invited, CBS2's Janelle Burrell reported. This year, it falls on Monday, October 9, 2017.
However, not everyone in Utah is happy about it.

He added, "I think the best way as an Italian-American that I can honor their sacrifice and their heritage is to try and make the world better for their children and for my children".
