What are the gun laws in Las Vegas

PAUL RYAN: Look; I didn't even know what they were at - until this week, and I'm an avid sportsman. Richard Blumenthal of CT told reporters Wednesday, "if there is one".

In the wake of the Las Vegas massacre, Republicans on Capitol Hill have shown deep reluctance to consider any gun legislation, anxious that Democrats will use the shooting as a pretext to restrict law-abiding citizens' Second Amendment rights.

Instead, Ryan and other GOP leaders urged prayers to unify the country and said a positive way to respond to the shooting is to donate blood. "It's something we want to be part of the conversation on going forward".

So, in essence, neither party in Congress had the foresight to take a clean run against bump stocks and similar devices before they were put to such lethal use.

The announcement came days after the massacre in Las Vegas that left 59 people dead and hundreds more wounded.

"I think it's bad, it sets a bad precedent", Massie said, referring to the NRA's craven behavior following the Las Vegas shooting. The US, in fact, banned military-style automatics for a decade from 1994, with spectacularly positive results.

Massie believes that we should never give our opponents - the enemies of the Constitution - an inch in this war to restore our Republic. "The deaths and wounding of over 500 people, that's what's different about this", Feinstein said Wednesday.

Several sellers of bump stocks are reportedly running low on supply, and it remains to be seen how vocal gun rights groups will be in the coming debate.

The devices, originally meant to help people with disabilities, fit over the stock and grip of a semi-automatic rifle and allow the weapon to fire continuously, some 400 to 800 rounds in a single minute. That allows a gunman to fire between 400 and 800 rounds per minute.

Most automatic rifles have been illegal to own in the U.S. since 1986, so bump stocks create a loophole in the law.

The high number of firearms found at the hotel suggest a concern for overheating rifle barrels. If anything, this proves that gun companies know that in times of crisis and panic, they are more likely to profit. "Real gun guys don't use them for anything", said Glasco, an NRA-certified instructor who stars in a local Louisiana TV show, Legally Armed America.

"The fight is making sure that a ban on bump stocks doesn't become a vehicle for other initiatives pushed by Democrats", he said. "If that actually gets on the Senate floor, I'd vote for it". A bill in the House from Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., is expected soon.

The Wednesday comments from lawmakers including the No. 2 Senate Republican, John Cornyn of Texas, marked a surprising departure from GOP lawmakers' general antipathy to gun regulations of any kind. "I think that would be a good idea".

The Republicans similarly reacted to this statement, though numerous Republicans have already established that they would be "OK" with banning the bump stocks, while President Trump himself said on record that they would be looking at the issue as a priority shortly. But Paddock owned no fewer than 47 weapons and had bought 33 guns just this past year alone. Of the 23 Democratic senators up for reelection in 2018, 10 represent states that President Donald Trump won. Google Trends makes no speculation as to whether the searches for "gun control" during this time were for, against or just seeking information on the topic following the shooting.
