Mother sentenced to jail time for going against court order, not vaccinating son
Bredow told the court that she was, "an educated vaccine-choice mother".
The court said it is understood the mother love her children, but it is also to understand that the dad too has a say.
Speaking at the hearing on Wednesday, Bredow said it was not her intent to disrespect the court and that she is not a lazy mother.
"I'm a passionate mother who cares deeply about my children, their health and their well-being", Bredow said.
Rebecca Bredow is a religious woman who chose to stand her ground against a court ruling.
The federal government does not control child immunisation, but issues recommendations. "It goes against my beliefs". While the MI parents are allowed legally to delay or skip the vaccinations of their children with respect to their personal beliefs. But after nearly a year, she has continued to refuse.
If parents do not follow local guidelines regarding vaccinations, their children are often forbidden to go to school, and parents so could go to jail for children's truancy.
This didn't stop Ms Bredow from sticking to her guns. France has recently made vaccination mandatory for children, effective from 2018.
It is not legal to throw someone in jail for not vaccinating their child.
Judge McDonald said the boy has two parents and "dad gets a say".
Parents who belong to a church or religious body that does not believe in medical treatment do not need a healthcare signature on the exemption form.
"Contempt is a serious and critical power that the court has".
However, Bredow fell foul of the law because she had reneged on agreements with her former spouse, which dated back to November 2016.
Parents of public school children in MI can obtain a waiver for vaccinations, but they have to attend an educational session first about the benefits of vaccines, according to the Washington Post.
