Gun Stocks Are Telling Us That Gun Control Won't Happen After Las Vegas

A makeshift memorial for the victims of Sunday night's mass shooting stands at an intersection of the north end of the Las Vegas Strip

Authorities say 12 of the rifles the gunman Stephen Paddock used to carry out the attack in Las Vegas has modified bump stocks, an attachment that allows a rifle to fire faster.

A semi-automatic weapon can be converted into an automatic weapon with some devices, or by altering the gun in certain ways.

The stocks have been around for less than a decade. "It's impossible to know how to stop every act of gun violence, but I know with my whole being that our nation's leaders aren't even trying".

"Families at home did not send us to Washington for our thoughts and prayers", Clark said in a statement. With a fully automatic firearm, one trigger pull can unleash continuous rounds until the magazine is empty.

"A lot of people are just not aware of that and whenever an incident like this happens, these products people are aware of and then they sell out", Cargill said. "That is an accessory that can be used to modify a weapon like an AR-15 to allow it to fire in rapid succession or automatic fire".

Progressives, entertainers, and Democratic lawmakers are among the many Americans who are signaling a loss of patience with the predictable Republican response to the latest mass shooting.

He says gun sales have been normal since Sunday's shooting in Las Vegas. But, because they don't mechanically alter the gun to fire automatically, they are legal under current federal law.

The senseless tragedy in Las Vegas demonstrates the USA still needs to discuss gun control.

As to why bump stocks are legal, under the law, you can not convert a semiautomatic rifle to a fully automatic one, yes, but that's not, technically, what a bump stock is doing. This tragic incident and Trump's balk on gun control can not be dismissed and forgotten, pushed aside like climate change, global warming and other things he deems "fake news". And finally, how about a yearly sanity check for anyone owning a gun.

"Stricter gun control is going to take effect against the law-abiding citizens, not against the criminals who are really wanting to get out and obtain the modifications that they want", Robert Autrey said.

He said they don't sell bump stocks at Good 2 Go, but said they can special order it for clients.

Sen. Bill Nelson on Wednesday teamed with other Democrats to back legislation outlawing bump stocks.

"This measure would pose an unacceptable risk to public safety making it more hard for law enforcement especially in urban areas to identify gun shots, locate shooters and protect civilians".
