Internationals battling at Presidents Cup
The Americans led at some point in all five of the foursomes matches Thursday at Liberty National.
The International team have been so outplayed at the Presidents Cup that it perhaps would have been appropriate had the United States delivered the knockout punch on Saturday.
It was only an out-of-the-blue worldwide win in the final four-ball match by South Korea'sSi Woo Kim and India's Anirban Lahiri - the only outright win by their team all day - that prolonged the agony for everyone.
Major winners Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka then had to battle hard to overcome Jhonattan Vegas and Adam Scott 3&2.
It could have been even worse for the global team as American veteran Phil Mickelson missed a six-foot putt at the final hole as he and partner Kevin Kisner halved with Australians Jason Day and Marc Leishman.
The Americans continued to rough up the Internationals at Liberty National Golf Club, holing putts and chipping one shot in from 65 feet en route to a 14.5-3.5 score following three days of competition.
"There's an outside shot tomorrow and the guys all know that", Price said without much conviction.
"We've got 20 points left", he said.
Photo Mickelson and Kisner after winning the eighth hole on Saturday against the worldwide team's Emiliano Grillo of Argentina and Jhonattan Vegas of Venezuela.
Team-mate Daniel Berger added this to the mix, giving an insight to the American mindset heading into the singles. As soon as they make the turn to come up 14 towards the clubhouse, they just make everything.
Mathematically, the worldwide team could be done today, the first day of a double session - four matches of foursomes in the morning, following by four matches of fourballs in the afternoon. Mickelson was 12 feet away for birdie.
"On paper, we are not the best team, the Americans are", Day admitted in a pre-event press conference.
Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas then delivered a stinging 3 & 2 victory over the global powerhouse duo of Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace.
Recap: The Americans rallied from an early deficit, with Berger winning his first point as a Presidents Cup rookie.
Look, the US team is going to win Sunday.
The Aussie lost twice on Saturday, dropping his record for the week to 0-3-1. Then we went four holes in a a row and we're all square, then up again, and a bit all over the place. The International team birdied the tough 10th hole and took the lead for the first time when the Americans ran into trouble in the trees.
If not for Lahiri, the US would have been spraying champagne around Liberty National on Saturday.
"We all have that bedrock foundational right to freedom of speech, and our players exercise that fairly consistently, day in and day out, week in and week out", he said.
"Team USA is playing really well and they have all year, and they came into this event riding a lot of momentum, a lot of confidence, and they really get excited to play these team events and it's showing".
