The Wonky Way Graham-Cassidy Puts Preexisting Conditions Coverage At Risk

Repeal bill isn't looking out for all -- Bill Dagnon
Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and South Carolina's Lindsey Graham, required federal approval for such action.
Speaking on ABC's "This Week", Graham says Republicans are "moving forward" with a bill he co-sponsored with Illinois Sen.
But the CBO, which is lawmakers' nonpartisan fiscal analyst, has said that it doesn't have time to determine the bill's impact on coverage and premiums, major factors for some lawmakers deciding their votes.
Gov. Charlie Baker, a Republican, has joined other governors in resisting it.
The process that has led to this bill, with no congressional hearings and no mark-ups, is indefensible.
It also allows states to opt out of ACA requirements that insurers cover essential health benefits like hospitalization, maternal care and treatment for substance abuse; this could also harm numerous 5 million New Jerseyans who have employer-based insurance. Why would Graham-Cassidy harm kids? Caps on Medicaid effectively slash future Medicaid funding, and if these cuts were considered in the new funding algorithm, pundits say several states, such as Alaska, would still lose funding. The states that would see significant cuts in federal funding under Graham-Cassidy are the very ones that would be most inclined to pick up the slack themselves.
Sen. John McCain, an Arizona Republican, declared his opposition to Graham-Cassidy on Friday afternoon citing concerns that the bill did not go through "regular order", a series of hearings, markups and an open-amendment process. Sen. States could, for example, allow insurers to omit some of the benefits they are now required to provide, like coverage for maternity care, mental health care and drug addiction treatment.
The proposal would strip coverage from millions of Americans, raise costs for millions more (including those living with pre-existing conditions) and gut Medicaid - and it would harm New Jersey more than most other states. Cassidy and partisan politicians are trying to jam through another healthcare repeal bill that's worse than all the rest.
The underlying threat to our most vulnerable population is the same, however: children will lose access to health care. Without it, many of these vets will again be without insurance.
GOP senators' opposition to their party's drive to scrap President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act swelled to lethal numbers Sunday. Cassidy's bill is a disaster for the American people. The state's Medicaid program, MassHealth, covers more than 1.9 million people, including 300,000 added as a result of the federal law.
Approximately 95 percent of USA children now have health insurance, the highest percentage in history.
A partisan health care bill must be voted on by the end of the week, when the vehicle that Republicans are using to move their plan is expected to expire.
"Eventually, we will win on that", he said of repealing the health law. The party is now split between supporting a bill that appears unpopular with stakeholders and hasn't had even two full weeks to be vetted or moving ahead in an effort to pass anything it can. "It's failing badly", he said last week. "The premiums would be so high they would be unaffordable". After that date, they would need 60 votes, which means gaining support from Senate Democrats, all of whom have voted against this summer's repeal bills.
"I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried", McCain said in a statement.

Rouhani: Iran to boost missile capabilities
Nothing in the nuclear agreement covers the country's missile program, Iran has noted, claiming it is exclusively for defence. On one side, the missile test is a clear message to United States to stay out of its way of defending the Nation on its own.
