"Florida utilities are putting requests out for help, for example, and normally if it wasn't affecting us but we would certainly be the ones helping".
Nathan Deal noted Irma's unpredictability at a news conference in Atlanta Friday after the National Hurricane Center nudged the storm's predicted track significantly westward.
As of the 11 a.m., advisory, Irma was still an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds of 150 miles per hour. The storm is moving west northwest at 16 miles per hour and is expected to pass just north of Haiti and Cuba on Saturday morning.
Southside Virginia appears likely to escape much of the wrath of Hurricane Irma, the monster storm that crashed in southern Florida on Sunday. But when exactly would the hurricane land in North Carolina?
"Though it's too soon to tell just how Hurricane Irma will impact Georgia, we are urging everyone to take steps to prepare now", said GEMA/HS Director Homer Bryson.
In the Jacksonville area, close to the Georgia line, storm surge brought some of the worst flooding ever seen there, with at least 46 people pulled from swamped homes.
Meanwhile, S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson activated the state's anti-price gouging law with Irma's impending arrival sending residents to stores and gas stations for supplies.
One death in Florida, that of a man killed in an auto accident during the storm, was blamed on Irma.
The order also said that state government will be closed Monday and Tuesday for all employees except essential personnel.
"When that sun came out this morning and the damage was minimal, it became a good day", said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn.
"It is certainly one of those circumstances where we're going to need federal assistance if this storm is of the magnitude that we expect it to be", Deal said.
Spayberry suggested all North Carolina residents prepare evacuation routes, follow the advice of local officials, and begin making preparations now.
"We ordered water off Amazon because the stores were out and also ordered food", said Eastin, a 43-year-old lawyer who has lived in Florida for 12 years. Forecasters said tropical-storm- force winds could reach Georgia over the weekend and possibly SC soon after.
There were growing fears that the hurricane could hit the states of Georgia and North and SC, pending a shift in its trajectory, though Florida remained most likely to receive the brunt of the storm. We will have more details on school closings and accidents as we are made aware of them.

Chris Johnson officially re-signs with Cardinals
With a shocking blowout victory over the Indianapolis Colts , the Rams went from No. 24 to No. 19 for a five-spot jump. For the most part, nearly none of the takeaways for the Cardinals in this horrendous loss are any good.

He said North Korean bank representatives still operate in Russia in "flagrant disregard" of UN resolutions that Moscow voted for. North Korea's government blasted the sanctions and claimed the U.S. would "suffer the greatest pain ever" for supporting them.
