The world body on Monday banned North Korean textile exports, an important source of hard currency, and capped its imports of crude oil.

It is the ninth Security Council resolution to impose sanctions on North Korea, whose nuclear and ballistic missile tests violate previous Security Council directives.

But the US only managed to push the sanctions through after dropping some key measures - like a total ban on shipments of oil into North Korea - in an effort to get China and Russia on board.

"We know the Americans may come back with many more sanctions but in response we Koreans will continue shooting up many more missiles and conducting many more H-bomb tests", North Korean shop assistant Han Myong Sim told CNN's Will Ripley.

"We have not had the resolve to put these sanctions on those major institutions", Royce was quoted as saying. "We'll continue without wavering on the path of justice that we've chosen despite the slander and defamation from the United States because we're certain our cause is just and will triumph".

Mead concludes that "The Trump administration is trapped in a strategic dilemma with no easy escape. It might please the America First crowd but retreat won't bring peace".

Ambassadors to the United Nations voting during a UN Security Council meeting on North Korea on Monday. Had China pulled out, the effects that sanctions would've had on North Korea as a nation would have been diminished and reduced and therefore far less effective, which is not what you want when World War III could be on the line.

Pyongyang's ambassador, Han Tae Song, made the vitriolic comments at the UN-sponsored Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.

"It is up to the international community to see that these resolutions are implemented", he warned.

But the commission said in a statement it was "unable to confirm what type of nuclear test was conducted".

"The US needs to switch from isolation to communication in order to end an 'endless loop' on the Korean Peninsula, where "nuclear and missile tests trigger tougher sanctions and tougher sanctions invite further tests", it said".

Seal Team Six, the same elite U.S. military unit that killed Osama Bin Laden, is now training South Korean troops for a possible future operation to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

However, China's official Xinhua news agency said in a commentary that the Trump administration was making a mistake by rejecting diplomatic engagement with the North. "We are done trying to prod the regime to do the right thing" and instead are taking steps to prevent it "from doing the wrong thing". The draft resolution also no longer proposes an asset freeze on the military-controlled national airline Air Koryo.

North Korea detonated a huge H-bomb in an underground test facility in the north of the country last Sunday - and has vowed to launch an attack on the US Pacific island of Guam.

It calls upon states to inspect ships on the high seas if there are reasonable grounds to suspect it contains prohibited items.

"The textile ban, inspections paragraphs, and joint ventures language are strong", he added.
