Teeth of the Dragon China Conducts Missile Defense Test to Korean Border

South Korea is planning to deploy additional launchers of a controversial US -built missile defense system, a further sign of escalating tensions and a diplomatic stalemate over North Korea's growing nuclear weapons program.

In response to the sixth nuclear test on September 3, the United States and its allies are trying to have the U.N. Security Council endorse a new resolution toughening sanctions on North Korea.

On Sunday, North Korea said it detonated a hydrogen bomb designed for a long-range missile and called its sixth and most powerful nuclear test a "perfect success", sparking world condemnation and promises of tougher USA sanctions.

Sweden has urged its citizens to refrain from unnecessary trips to North Korea following the country's sixth and most powerful nuclear test to date.

Kim Jong-un's assets are being targeted by the a proposed new round of sanctions against North Korea through the United Nations that would also include an oil ban, the BBC News reported on Thursday.

Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera suggested implementing stronger economic penalties to encourage North Korea to alter its behavior. However, North Korea's repeated nuclear tests may be weakening China's position on that.

Xi said China had been adamant in preserving global nuclear non-proliferation, maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula, and resolving the nuclear issue through talks, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

An official at the Mexican foreign ministry noted, however, that President Enrique Pena Nieto's government was not breaking diplomatic ties with North Korea.

The standoff between North Korea and the USA has become the most risky foreign crisis facing President Donald Trump, as the isolated state accelerates its program to develop weapons of mass destruction.

Amid concerns of another launch, the National Security Council met Thursday to discuss plans in case Kim fires a missile to celebrate the founding day of North Korea Saturday.

President Trump tussles with Major Garrett of CBS News over his plans for North Korea at a joint press conference with Amir Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah of Kuwait on Wednesday.

But he said he believed North Korea's leadership feared that any freeze of its nuclear program would be followed by what amounted to "an invitation to the cemetery". "The U.S. will receive more "gift packages" from my country as long as it relies on reckless provocations and futile attempts to put pressure on the DPRK", he warned.

While not official, media reports in China indicate its leadership may be opening up to new solutions in regards to North Korea.

"I believe that President Xi agrees with me 100 percent".

A PARTY atmosphere took over Pyongyang on Wednesday as citizens lined the streets and fireworks illuminated the night sky in celebration of the scientists involved in the largest nuclear test in the country's history.

In 1993, the Council approved Resolution 825 calling on North Korea to remain in the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

"It is ridiculous to say that the nuclear weapons of the DPRK, the deterrent force against the nuclear threat and blackmail of the U.S., can aim at Europe", said Ri Tok-son, deputy director of the North Korean foreign ministry's European department.
