Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned North Korea could face a similar demise as Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, unless it turns away from its nuclear programme.

Still, the two leaders made significant progress when it came to economic issues.

He said "because of North Korea's continued provocation, Japanese and Korean people are starting to worry a lot". It will authorise me to stop doing trade, and put sanctions on anybody that does trade with North Korea.

"We urge the Republic of Korea (South Korea) and the United States to take seriously the security concerns and interests of China and regional countries, halt deployment progress and withdraw all the relevant equipment", foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a regular press briefing in Beijing.

"At the same time, we always persist in safeguarding peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and resolving the issue through dialogue and consultation", Xi told his USA counterpart.

Foreign Minister Taro Kono, who accompanied Abe to Vladivostok, met with his South Korean counterpart, Kang Kyung-wha, on September 7.

At the same time, in the far-eastern Russian port city of Vladivostok, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and South Korean President Moon Jae In agreed to closely coordinate new, tougher sanctions against Pyongyang.

South Korea said it fired a volley of ballistic missiles on Monday to simulate an attack on the North's nuclear test site, followed Tuesday by major live-fire drills at sea.

"We agreed with Mr. Abe that the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces [Gerasimov] and commander of the Land Force [Oleg Salyukov] will soon visit Japan", he said.

Until now, South Korean missiles' payload was limited to 500 kilograms, and Seoul had been negotiating to have the limit raised to 1 ton.

Seoul was previously restricted to a maximum warhead weight of 500 kilograms on its ballistic missiles, according to a bilateral agreement with the United States signed in 2001.

However, the missiles would still be bound by a flight range cap of 800 km as no changes to the flight range were mentioned in the Blue House statement.

The Trump administration says the United Nations needs to tighten economic sanctions to pressure North Korea to change its behavior and start talking. Officials say they are determined to keep the site clear of protesters to allow the U.S. to quickly install the additional launchers. "With the deployment of the four launchers, the USA military secured the field operation capability of one Thaad battery".
