Tar Heels defenseless to stop the 'Lamar Jackson Show'

Heisman Repeat? Jackson Starts Fast

How UNC's inexperienced receiving corps needs to improve against Louisville

Jackson, the reigning Heisman trophy victor, recorded 525 total yards, the most by a single player against UNC, and the Cardinals won 47-35. Last week Jackson picked up where he left off, accounting for over 400 yards of total offense and throwing for a pair of touchdowns against Purdue. The 525 yards were the most ever given up in a game by the Tar Heels.

No. 17 Louisville knows what it has at quarterback - Heisman victor Lamar Jackson. For Jackson, that means trying to match a 2016 season in which he had 5,114 yards of total offense and accounted for 51 touchdowns, in addition to overcoming the backlash to how Louisville's season ended. Brandon Harris, who replaced Surratt before the half, lasered a touchdown pass to regain the UNC lead.

Qadree Ollison rushed for 96 yards for the Panthers (1-1), but the offense struggled to finish early drives. Jackson thrived with 485 yards of total offense, giving the quarterback a good start in his bid — even if he says it isn't his focus — to become only the second two-time Heisman victor. Max Browne completed 19 of 32 for 138 yards and two interceptions.

North Carolina's Anthony Ratliff-Williams returned the ensuing kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown. He also added six touchdowns (three passing and three rushing).

Jordan - who played for the Tar Heels from 1981-84 - appeared at the basketball home game against Duke in March alongside football coach Larry Fedora to announce a Jordan Brand apparel deal with Fedora's program this season. Jackson found him over the middle for a 30-yard TD pass. And I'm also positive he cares more about winning the ACC and competing for a national championship than another Heisman.

The coaching staff also called a play on fourth-and-two while trailing by five that was tipped and nearly led to a pick-six for Harris. They finished with 6 penalties for 61 yards. If Jackson does win the 2017 Heisman award, he will be the first one to win back-to-back Heisman's since Griffin pulled off the feat in 1974 and 1975.

UNC now falls to 0-2.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - No. 18 Virginia Tech forced two turnovers and recorded four sacks in its rout of Delaware.

The Cardinals took the ball 99 yards, with Jackson reaching into the end zone at the end of an 11-yard rush. Quarterback Joe Walker passed for 116 yards for DE (1-1).

The Hiram, Ga., native performed in key moments for the Cardinals past year, including 1.5 tackles for loss against Florida State and Virginia, an interception at Virginia, and five tackles in Louisville's bowl game against LSU. But when given the opportunity to steal a victory against the nation's 17th-ranked team, they twice failed to take advantage in short yardage situations. Bonnafon did have a touchdown run last week, though, and he and Smith are both big, physical backs.

Dungey was 25 of 41 for 166 yards and one interception. Arkansas quarterback Austin Allen was 9 of 23 for 138 yards.

Next up for the Tar Heels is a road game at Old Dominion.

Dez Fitzpatrick once again scored, nabbing two Jackson touchdown passes.

With Jeremy Smith sidelined and Reggie Bonnafon ineffective, Malik Williams had a breakout performance, running for 149 yards on 13 carries.
