Billboard reports that the song - the lead release from Swift's new album "Reputation" - is poised to make a huge debut at No. 1 on next week's Hot 100 chart.
Swift appears to give nod to that exchange on "Look What You Made Me Do" with the lyrics "I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. Why?"
At one point in time, I loved Taylor Swift. The one-hit-wonder group received a songwriting credit for their contribution, and Swift and co-writer/producer Jack Antonoff sent them a lovely thank-you bouquet.
For someone with as many advantages and privileges as Swift, this is not a courageous clap back to the haters.
"Look What You Made Me Do" is a libel lawsuit against pop culture itself - Swift is exhausted of the way celebrities are commodified and therefore dehumanized by an audience greedy for the next piece of gossip or hearsay. "She said, 'Good for her!'"
In the beginning of "Look What You Made Me Do", Taylor sings, "I don't like your tilted stage", with many assuming she was referencing Kanye West's flying stage from his "Saint Pablo" tour. It was the latest sign Swift is ready for a return to the spotlight.
We know the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now because she's dead and all, but we made a decision to rank some of her most iconic videos anyway. "Why?" "Oh, 'cause she's dead!" part. Artistically, I didn't feel that was the case. Swift may not be the Queen of Pop, but she's a brilliantly accomplished jester.
Broadly found that the perceived link may have started around 2013, when a Pinterest user made memes of Swift with Adolf Hitler quotes on them, making it look (falsely) like Swift had said them.
Swift has the potential to empower young women today. "Chewed gum" and "sticky tape" metaphors are used to discourage sexual promiscuity and to shame those who do not comply. Instead, her new song endorses the idea that if you're wronged, you should dwell on it for a very long time.
There is harm in that purity narrative.
I want to see great storytelling from Swift again.
Following widespread outcry at the video, Kahn spoke out on social media, declaring that Swift and other well-known female artists are victims of "double standards".
Khan, a veteran music video director who's helmed high-profile clips for the likes of Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, was previously responsible for Swift's internet-breaking Bad Blood and Blank Space videos. By the end of the video, I wished that was the direction Swift made a decision to take.

Liverpool sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal
A point proved by his decision to turn Chelsea down, when there were reports they'd make him their top earner at the club. A potential move for the Dutchman collapsed in June following a complaint by Saints over the Anfield club's conduct.
A Cool & Cloudy Thursday
The unofficial last weekend of summer is getting off to a cool, fall-like start, but the weather will improve for Labor Day . There are a few leftover showers from rain that developed along the east and west coast seabreeze is late on Thursday .
5 things to watch for Thursday night | Ohio State vs
I didn't keep track of whether Tom was better at predicting games than I was last season, but you can bet I will this year. Early, late openers: Ohio State's earliest and latest openers both come from the earliest days of the football program.
