Here are all the big changes coming to YouTube today
"When YouTube launched 12 years ago, it was a single website that supported one video format, 320x240 at 4:3 aspect ratio".
The YouTubelogo has now been shifted, and no longer will emphasis by placed on "Tube", but on to the play button. As you can see, these below-attached pics describe the different logos of YouTube.
On the desktop, the navigation menu is now nested like it is for mobile on the left side. YouTube's much sought after dark mode is now officially rolled out to desktop users.
"It's an evolution, not a revolution", says Christopher Bettig, the head of YouTube's art department.
New user gestures for the mobile app. YouTube is eventually rolling out the features to both the platforms.
YouTube has alsointroduced new Library and Account tabs to facilitate better discovery. The app will now have a white background with the new YouTubelogo placed on the left. Major changes have been made on the navigational tab which has been shifted to the bottom.
The site also says it's experimenting with gestures, such as the ability to skip a video by swiping right, but they're still works in progress.
On top of that, YouTubealso introduced a series of new features for its mobile and desktop versions. This means that people will be able to watch even vertical or horizontal videos without any black bars at the sides.
Other updates to the mobile app include a flexible viewing window that can display square and vertical videos without any black space; that said, we would still advise against shooting your videos vertically.
All the features we've mentioned above are now available for some users as the company is currently testing them, but sometime in the near future they will roll out across the globe.
Video pacing has been added to the app along with a feature known as "Browse and discover while you watch".
Apart from these features, YouTube is reportedly working on the suggested videos section as well.
The desktop site is also getting a redesign, though, and it is rolling out to everyone around the world as of today.
