Barcelona are fast running out of options in their hunt for a replacement for Neymar - who moved to PSG in a £198m deal - with another target, Ousmane Dembele, also blocked from moving by Borussia Dortmund. That was rejected on Wednesday.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says the decision over whether Philippe Coutinho remains at the club is out of his hands.

The 25-year-old may still be plying his trade on Merseyside come the end of the transfer window following a very strong statement from the club's owners earlier today.

A win for Liverpool in their Premier League debut would be a much-needed confidence booster and help settle the starting line-up ahead of the upcoming (and crucial) Champions League clash against Hoffenheim on Tuesday.

"I can't keep players happy".

Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has taken to social media platform Twitter to let know his verdict on the saga.

"He has back problems and was not in training since last Friday", Klopp said.

"When FSG say something like this it is 100 per cent clear", said Klopp. At this moment, I'm just concentrating on my team.

The latest developments could result in Barcelona being forced into abandoning plans to sell Arda Turan.

Liverpool were rocked on Friday with Philippe Coutinho's shock transfer request, which came on the eve of the Reds' Premier League campaign kick off. Coutinho wants to join Barcelona and is doing everything he can to make it happen.

Philippe Coutinho has submitted a transfer request just hours after the club were forced to insist he wouldn't be sold at any price.

"Last time it was very tough, we won 1-0 and I remember in the last minute they hit the crossbar and it was almost heartbreak for me!"

Here, we look back at the key dates this summer in Barcelona's pursuit of the Reds star - with the Catalans twice being knocked back with big-money bids.

Coutinho signed a five-year contract at Anfield in January, with Liverpool ensuring that no release clause was inserted.
