Maradona Says He'd Fight for Maduro's “Free Venezuela” Because He's Chavista “Until Death”

Fugitive mayor urges Venezuelans to continue resistance

The Constituent Assembly is expected to announce new decisions to bring "justice" to the country during its session Tuesday.

Yet its officials have embezzled billions, making Venezuela the most corrupt country in Latin America, as well as the most ineptly governed.

The opposition coalition, while urging more demonstrations, has agreed to field candidates in overdue regional elections set for December 10.

Mr Maduro has lost allies around the region as several governments, including Argentina and Brazil, shifted to the right in recent years. The new legislature, the Constituent Assembly, replaced the opposition-held National Assembly. U.S. persons and businesses are also banned from transactions with the targeted officials. Ortega was the Venezuelan equivalent of the US Attorney General and was a vocal critic of Maduro, NPR reported. Turnout at an anti-government march Friday was one of the smallest in four months of deadly unrest.

"That's why we should be standing against the regime and for the values we hold", he said.

"Our struggle is digital", the hacker group said. The agency has lowered Venezuela's credit rating to CCC that means a potential failure to service its debt.

A pro-Maduro assembly could rewrite Venezuela's constitution.

The government-backed assembly that is recasting Venezuela's political system appears to be literally taking the place of the opposition-controlled congress. Maduro has said the truth commission may strip lawmakers of immunity, a not-so-veiled threat of prosecution against his political opponents.

The 545-member legislative body was elected July 30.

"We are chavistas until death", Maradona wrote on his official Facebook page, using a term to refer to supporters of late former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

"This TUSC report will be a powerful tool in the fight to make that happen".

And what precisely is that job?

Department spokeswoman Heather Nauer issued a series of tweets on Venezuela Tuesday.

"This regime's disregard for the will of the Venezuelan people is unacceptable".

Freddy Guevara, vice-president of the National Assembly, said Venezuela was on the precipice of a "hard dictatorship".

The president's popularity has been pounded by an economic crisis marked by shortages of food and medicine and triple-digit inflation. He has said the new assembly is needed to bring peace and prosperity to Venezuela.

The move got the blessing of regional leaders yesterday at a special emergency meeting via a video conference convened Dr Mitchell.
