Disappointing company earnings also helped pull the market lower, with financial and consumer-focused companies outweighing gains among health care stocks.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were down 0.22%, S&P 500 futures fell 0.4%, and Nasdaq futures slipped 0.67%.
The pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 index lost 0.77 percent and MSCI's gauge of stocks across the globe shed 0.37 percent.
