"These tweets are part and parcel of the kinds of intimidation and threats he has made against the special counsel", he said.

Senator Blumenthal said the tweets showed why measures were needed to protect the special counsel on the Russian Federation investigation, Robert Mueller.

Despite Donald Trump's childish and deeply personal attacks on Democratic Sen. Counting at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970, the Times called out the manner in which Blumenthal talks about Vietnam as "misleading".

The legislation, which Blumenthal introduced with Sens. Richard Blumenthal on Monday, the CT senator refused to lose focus of the special counsel investigation into Trump's campaign's ties to Russian Federation during last year's election. He called for any attorney general or acting attorney general to submit a request to remove a special counsel to a panel of federal judges.

Critics though say that the president is in no position to disparage Blumenthal's military record, or attack his public statements on the matter. He had been in the Marine reserves in Washington, but never saw combat.

Did Blumenthal fight in the Vietnam War?

Trump was referring to the 2010 controversy surrounding Blumenthal when he referred to himself having served in Vietnam. He served entirely in the USA, but during a Senate campaign spoke about serving in Vietnam, instead of the Vietnam era which he later said is what he meant. He was granted several deferments during the Vietnam era. At the time, Blumenthal told the newspaper that he had "misspoken" about his service. After the report surfaced, Blumenthal confirmed that he had never fought in Vietnam. Trump said McCain was not a hero and added, "I like people who weren't captured". He tweeted against the senator in February after Blumenthal said then-Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch found Trump's attacks on judges "disheartening" and "demoralizing".

How have Blumenthal and others reacted?

President Trump ripped Richard Blumenthal on Twitter following a television appearance by the obnoxious Connecticut Senator. "No one is above the law".

Trump's boasts about his support among his base illustrated his focus on holding his core backers even as polls show that his approval ratings have continued to fall across the board.

Blumenthal has represented CT in the Senate since 2011. Politico reported about Trump's receiving an honorary Purple Heart in 2016, and the topic proved for plenty of discussion on social media today. She now serves as a Trump appointee as the 25th administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Blumenthal isn't just ethically deficient.
