Jaitley slams Kerala govt for political violence

BJP-RSS cadres attacking, killing our men in Kerala, says CPI-M

Jaitley to Call at House of RSS Karyavah Rajesh on Aug. 6

Kerala: CPI (M) members & their families stage protest outside Raj Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram, over attacks on party workers. "The political opponents are killed in a most brutal and barbaric manner", the Union finance minister told reporters.

The state BJP office was vandalised on 28 July. He accused BJP of implementing Amit Shah's plan in the state by attacking CPI-M party strongholds. He said if the violence had happened in a state ruled by the BJP or NDA, awards would've been returned and Parliament wouldn't have been allowed to function. But in Kerala, the ruling party is perpetrating violence on the people. Jaitley, who visited the house of Rajesh, said the "karyakarta was "brutally butchered" and had 70-80 wounds on his body". Crime records from the Kerala Police, accessed by NDTV, recently revealed that the number of murdered CPI (M) cadres outnumber the murdered RSS workers. "The same story repeats itself".

Though the Marxists seem to be falling into the BJP's trap by failing to put an end to the cycle of political violence, BJP hasn't endeared themselves to Keralites who are immensely proud of their culture and state. CPM should not dream of silencing BJP-RSS workers using violence. "This kind of violence will neither suppress the ideology, nor scare our workers and cadres", he said.

Nagappan had also written an open letter to Jaitley on the alleged "double standards" of the BJP on the issue of attacks. "Every time the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is in power, incidents of violence increase". Though I tried explaining to him it was pure propaganda, his facial expression suggested he didn't buy my explanation.

"We will not forget this heinous act".

During the visit, Jaitely spoke with the three-year old son of Rajesh and his aged parents.

Saying that the Union Home Minister adopts one position while another Minister and BJP leadership take a contrary stand, the CPI-M said: "This clearly shows that the BJP-RSS leaders are not keen to see peace is restored and there are no political clashes".

Stating that the government should be tried for its misdeeds in the people's court, Muraleedharan, however, clarified that his party did not support dismissal of the state government on these grounds.

He asked the state government to discharge its constitutional responsibility and take swift action to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
