Senate Republicans will continue to offer different amendments and substitute legislation to try to come around a compromise Obamacare repeal and replace bill. Ted Cruz and Ohio Sen. It was a first vote of at least two necessary on that plan.

In what lawmakers are calling "vote-a-rama", the Senate is expected to continue to bring to the floor a series of amendments created to alter healthcare policy.

But as the day began, it wasn't clear whether there would be 50 Republican votes for any GOP health plan in the Senate - skinny or not. "But my colleagues, make no mistake about it, skinny repeal is equal to full repeal".

The motion could have been defeated if not for the dramatic vote in favor cast by Sen.

"I think everybody in there, maybe except for one senator, promised their supporters, their voters that they supported repeal of Obamacare", Sen.

"I don't know what's in it still", said Sen.

Senators are settling in for a possible all-nighter on the future of health care. Even after voting to move the amended leadership bill forward Tuesday evening he said that he wasn't necessarily supporting the bill itself.

That legislative path appears more likely after the Senate parliamentarian on Tuesday ruled that several provisions of the BCRA don't meet budget reconciliation rules and must have 60 votes to pass.

Can that get the 50 votes needed to pass? Instead, it fell 43-57.

Portman is a key vote.

But as its possible repeal looms, insurers, health policy experts and consumer advocates are stressing how important the mandate - or a similar stick to entice people to stay insured - is to the stability of the individual insurance market.

In total, more than 630,000 Nevadans are on Medicaid.

Clearly Republicans cannot get on the same page.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell arrives to speak with reporters following the successful vote to open debate on a health care bill on Capitol Hill, July 25, 2017.

The straight repeal-only option was based on 2015 piece of legislation that passed both chambers of Congress but was vetoed by then-President Barack Obama.

Media reports indicate McConnell's "skinny" proposal would simply scrap the ACA's individual mandate to purchase insurance, the employer mandate to provide insurance and the ACA tax on medical devices.

"We're trying to achieve consensus, does that sound familiar?", Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn said when asked whether there is a draft of the skinny bill.

"I would much prefer that we return to committee and go through the normal order".

Paul said being a doctor he has seen the "disaster that is Obamacare up close". Collins said, after voting no Tuesday night.

Insurance companies say repealing just the mandate would mean "steep premium increases and diminished choices".

"It's extremely disappointing, and Senator Heller made that vote to take away health care from millions of American families, children, parents, and grandparents; hundreds of thousands of Nevadans", said Rep. Rosen.
