An estimated 2,500 to 7,000 transgender people are among the 1.3 million active duty service members

President Donald Trump proposed via three tweets a plan to ban transgender people from serving in the USA military.

Transgender veteran Blue Montana says he was shocked after hearing the news that President Trump tweeted a ban on transgender people from serving the military.

"Thank you?", Colbert asked, perplexed.

The message caught military leadership a bit flatfooted and set off another tweet-born storm.

It's unclear whether Trump will actually follow through on his tweets and officially ban trans troops through a more official process. And the White House spokespeople seemed kerfuffled as well.

Others say a person's military fighting ability depends on the person, not their gender identification.

"If he cares so much about high medical costs, maybe he should pass a health care bill", Fallon joked.

It is estimated by the RAND Corporation that up to 2,500 transgender people are already on active duty, with approximately 1,500 more on reserve.

It concluded that allowing them to serve openly would have a minimal impact on the readiness and health care costs of the 1.3-million-member USA military force.

However, the military spent almost $42 million on Viagra and approximately $84 million on erectile dysfunction prescriptions, according to a 2015 analysis by the Military Times.

She said the LGBT community feels betrayed by the president who promised to support the LGBT community. "They should not be allowed", said Domenick Piscipo.

"Congresswoman Stefanik has the deepest respect and admiration for anyone who wishes to serve our nation".

The U.S. leader has declared there's no place in the U.S. military for transgender people.

Meanwhile, Sen. Dean Heller's office said "Senator Heller believes that anyone who wants to join the military should be able to".

Some, however, agreed with the president.

Republican Gov. Doug Burgum's spokesman Mike Nowatzki said the North Dakota National Guard will continue to follow laws set by Congress as well as guidance from the Department of Defense and the National Guard Bureau. "It's about time that a decision is made to restore the warrior culture and allow the USA military to get back to business". Do you agree with the president's decision?

The President cited the medical cost for treating transgender soldiers and the disruption it could cause.
