US Open at Erin Hills, final round

19 Junio 2017, 05:59 | Gerardo Tarin

Justin Thomas on Saturday became the fifth player to post a 63 in a U.S. Open, joining Miller, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Weiskopf and Vijay Singh but Thomas is the only one to do it on a par-72 course.

Florida native Koepka becomes the seventh consecutive first-time major victor, a run started by Jason Day at the 2015 US PGA Championship. Brian Harman putts on the 18th hole during the third round of the U.S. Open golf tournament Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis.

Koepka, 27, shot a 5-under 67 in the final round and finished 16-under to tie the U.S. Open record set by Rory McIlroy in 2011.

Another birdie rolled in on the ninth for Harman to make the turn in 34, and he went on to pick up three more shots at 11, 14 and 15 to find himself one-shot clear heading in to Sunday. If I wake up with the same feelings tomorrow I'm going to have a chance.

"To go over there, I think it helped me grow up a little bit and really figure out that, hey, play golf, get it done, and then you can really take this somewhere", he said.

Previous rounds of 73, 71 and 76 meant the 23-year-old was finished before the final few groups teed off, but that allowed him to make plans to watch good friends Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler do battle with the likes of Brooks Koepka and England's Tommy Fleetwood for the year's second major.

"Well, it would change my life, I know that", Fleetwood told reporters.

"It was a really good round of golf and you don't realise until you start talking about it that I hardly missed a shot all day". I've been there a handful of times and had some good finishes.

Chez Reavie had an incredible round of 65, but he was not the only person to shoot that score with Hideki Matsuyama showing his class and the world number four is just two shots back now - the Japanese player was tipped by the GM tipster before the tournament.

Of the five other players who shot a 63 in the third round at a major, none went on to win. Brian Harman, who had the lead coming into the day, made a long birdie putt on No. 3 to join Koepka on top.

Overnight leader Harman appeared nervous early on but rescued pars on the opening two holes before reclaiming a share of the lead thanks to a 29-foot birdie putt on the third. "Obviously, today I definitely had something to show for it".

THE BIG EASY: Weekend rain softened the greens at Erin Hills.

Taking nothing away from 9-under par, 9-under is incredible with U.S. Open pressure. He dropped nine shots over the next seven holes - three double bogeys, three bogeys and one par. So I'm sure that the wind will stop scoring being as low as it has been.

"South Korea's Kim Si-Woo was one behind Fowler on nine under after also shooting 68, while three players - Patrick Reed, Russell Henley and Charley Hoffman were on eight under". Goal here is probably to get back under par for the tournament.

Keep in mind, Thomas was also battling it out on one of the most insane leaderboards you'll ever see.
