The US Open: 5 Things to Watch on Sunday

McIlroy, Day try to make up ground, make cut at US Open

Fowler grabs early lead with record-tying 7-under 65 at US Open

Furyk reached 10-under 200.

ERIN, Wisconsin After days of being humbled, Erin Hills turned nasty for the U.S. Open's final round on Sunday as heavy winds pummeled the layout, adding an intriguing wrinkle to the year's second major.

Thomas' 9-under 63 also broke Johnny Miller's U.S. Open record for low round in relation to par.

And yet, Thomas won't even walk to the first tee box Sunday with the lead.

How much prize money will the 2017 US Open victor earn? Here's another: Even the longest course in major championship history can't suppress this generation of big hitters, especially with benign weather conditions and soft greens. It led to an eagle to close out his 63.

Tommy Fleetwood's second shot on the par-five 18th finished just 47 yards from the pin.

Englishman Fleetwood looked set to be in the final group until he made a clumsy bogey at 18 on Saturday.

I want that U.S. Open back.

All it took was a 9-under 63, the lowest round to par in a major long known as the toughest test in golf. And he wasn't through. Two other former Tide players qualified for the tournament, but Dru Love missed by one stroke and Bud Cauley by two strokes making the cut. Palmer shot a 65 after going into the final round trailing by seven shots. And then Morgan came undone.

Kevin Kisner, Tyler Light and Stewart Cink also dropped early shots.

Still, he was pleased overall on a day when only 11 players topped his 69.

The Savannah native won practically everything worth winning in Georgia's junior golf ranks - capped with a victory at the 2003 U.S. Junior Amateur. Not to mention that he hit a jaw dropping shot to break the record.

Rickie Fowler is at minus-10, just two back. No one had a chance. Spieth, who won the 2015 event, dropped away with a 76 leaving him in 59th at four-over while 2014 victor Kaymer fell to even-par after a 75. Speaking after his third round at the U.S. Open, he eluded to the chip it left on his shoulder.

Harman has history playing against him in the final round. Furyk closed with a 72. Really, really well. He's made just two bogeys all week and is hitting an outstanding 78 percent of his greens. He sank 11-foot putts for birdies on both 14 and 15 and drained a 26-footer for a birdie on 17. Fleetwood was poised to take the lead until his pitch to the 18th wasn't strong enough and his next shot went beyond the flag and down the slope some 70 feet away. His best finish at the U.S. Open was third in 2001.

Brian Harman plays his tee shot from the ninth tee during the third round of the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills. "Struck it well, had a couple putts that could have gone that didn't, but had a bunch of looks, hit a bunch of greens, and that's what you've got to do to play well around here". The tournament was never really in doubt after that, though the wind arrived and Kaymer couldn't maintain the pace.

He ended up with two birdies and no bogeys over his last five holes.

Fleetwood, who was hoping to become the third English victor since 1924 after Tony Jacklin (1970) and Justin Rose (2013), began the day in a tie for second and made an encouraging start with a birdie from eight feet on the second.
