The Sarfraz Ahmed-led side on Sunday came out on top with a commendable all-round performance as they defeated India by 180 runs at The Oval to lift their maiden Champions Trophy title.
It all left India needing to set new tournament record for a team batting second to win if they were to retain the title they won in England four years ago.
Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed added: "After the India match in the group stage, I told the players the tournament hadn't finished yet".
Amir, whose career was almost ended across London by a ban and jail sentence for his involvement in a spot-fixing scan during a 2010 Test at Lord's, was in superb form after a back spasm forced him out of the semi-final win over England.
He removed India's top three batsmen - Rohit Sharma (0), Shikhar Dhawan (21) and Kohli (5). Opener Fakhar Zaman, playing only his fourth One Day International, mixed fearlessness with sensibility and smashed 114 from just 106 balls to help his team post a mammoth 338 on board.
"But he was run out in a bad mix-up", said Kohli, who scored five before becoming the second victim of a fired-up Mohammad Amir.
They came into the final against India at the Oval as the outsiders and when India won the toss and made a decision to chase it was felt like Pakistan would need to post close to 350 to just have a chance.
"India was expecting us to lose, but our players, young team, played really well", said reveller Hassan Sattar, grinning. I would do the same here because they deserved to win.
Pakistan had to earn their win and they made us make mistakes.
Kohli, the world's top-ranked one-day batsman, had been dropped off the previous delivery in the slips and the India fans looked shell-shocked as he trudged off.
Pacer Mohammad Amir also starred with the ball in Sunday's final, taking a trio of wickets while Shadab Khan added two more and Junaid Khan took one. Most of his early runs came from the edge of his bat; then there would be an eyebrow-raising boundary of great audacity.
Pakistan's triumph was all the more impressive given they had been comprehensively beaten by India in both teams' opening group match at Edgbaston a fortnight earlier.
The "Law of Averages" were certainly going to catch up with India's "Big Three" after their brilliant run in the tournament. Credit should also be given to the Pakistani bowlers who kept things tight for India from the very first over and never let the pressure ease.
Pakistan's victory against India was as spectacular as their campaign in the tournament.
India went into the final with seven straight wins against Pakistan.
"Congratulations to Pakistan. The way they turned things around, it was unbelievable", Kohli said.
Six of world's top 10 golfers miss cut
Every time I've been in majors so far I've put so much emphasis on them and tried so hard at them that I kind of got in my way. Undaunted, Fowler responded with a mammoth 51-foot putt for birdie on the eighth to reclaim a share of the lead.
Koepka wins US Open
In the history of the championship, from 1895 to 2016, six players total reached double-digits under par in the championship. My timing was just a little bit off. "It was a case of "just keep doing what you're doing, you're going to win the thing".
Ruth Davidson dismisses Scottish Tories breakaway claim
The Tories also benefited because they have in Mrs Davidson a leader who, unlike Mrs May, comes across as a human being. Sturgeon demanded a second independence ballot in March, arguing that the Brexit result changed the rules of the game.

Koepka caps record week with US Open title
It was only fitting that Koepka left Erin Hills with yet another record matched or broken. "It was kind of bombs away", he said. Below Harman on 12 under, three players are exhausted on 11 under - Thomas, Brooks Koepka and England's Tommy Fleetwood .
Did Erin Hills serve as a US Open worthy course?
In the history of the championship, from 1895 to 2016, six players total reached double-digits under par in the championship. HARMAN: No, I don't think there's - I think most of the good players don't really compare themselves to their peers.

Germany: no punishment for UK, but EU exit good for no one
If so, it could have to be ratified by up to 38 national and regional parliaments, with any of them effectively holding a veto. The EU insists that should wait until an outline agreement on divorce terms, ideally by the end of this year.
