The FBI has swarmed the IL home of James Hodgkinson, combing through evidence trying to understand what could've led the 66-year-old man to the shooting rampage at a Republican congressional baseball practice.

The man who shot senior Republican congressman Steve Scalise and others at a congressional baseball practice session this week had a list containing the names of three politicians, officials said.

Scalise, who is the third-ranking Republican in the House, was hit in the left hip and remains in critical condition, MedStar Washington Hospital Center said Wednesday night.

Hodgkinson told his wife he was going to Washington to "work with people to change the tax brackets", she said.

Sue Hodgkinson says she can't explain the actions of her estranged husband, James T. Hodgkinson. "She had no idea he felt as strong as he did", Wagner said.

"He never bothered anybody that I knew of", Guetterman said, shaking his head in disbelief that someone living that close to him could do something like that.

"I just don't know what to tell you people". "There's nothing I could do about it".

She said her husband sold nearly all of his possessions before leaving their Belleville home early this year, shortly after their daughter and her 2-year-old son came home. Just prior to his leaving, Sue's daughter and 2-year-old grandchild had moved back home.

Scalise can hope to make an "excellent recovery", his trauma surgeon said Friday, even though the lawmaker arrived at the hospital Wednesday at imminent risk of death. Hodgkinson moved from Belleville to Alexandria, Virginia, not long after Schaumleffel's "shots fired" call, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported.

"There's just no way that I would have guessed that this guy would be shooting at law enforcement and a congressman", said Brennwald, an attorney. Two Capitol Police officers sustained relatively minor injuries. And she said she had no idea what exactly he was doing while he was gone.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) traced the two weapons recovered from the scene - a 9 mm handgun and a 7.62 caliber rifle.

"It's very sad to see that it put a negative light on our community because we have such a great community", Wamble says.

"I know he wasn't happy with the way things were going, the election results and stuff", he told The New York Times.
