Sixers in talks to acquire No. 1 pick from Celtics: report
Recently, all of the speculation has been about the first overall pick in the NBA Draft. There's been quite a bit of dissent among the experts, but they've nearly all agreed on one thing: the Boston Celtics would select Markelle Fultz with the No. 1 pick. But with Fultz, Philadelphia - which has asked its fans to endure some dismal stretches and "Trust The Process" for the past few years - would likely expect to turn a real corner toward respectability again.
From the sound of it, Fultz couldn't be more excited to play alongside Simmons who was sidelined for his entire rookie season with a fractured foot suffered last September during training camp. And if neither of those occur, the Kings' 2019 pick remains a fabulous asset. Boston's surplus of useful wings could be part of Danny Ainge positioning himself for another blockbuster deal, but let's not rule out the possibility that he's become addicted to kicking the ball down the road. Fultz's versatility would allow him to work well alongside the 6-10 Simmons. That visit was essentially the final hurdle to clear before Boston and Philadelphia could decide to actually consummate the trade. What the Celtics' roster is really missing is a playmaker at the small forward position. Fultz reportedly looked good in his workout but did not shoot well missing 14 of the 18 three pointers he took. They are also much closer to max cap space to offer the top free agents come the start of July.
If Jackson isn't an option for the Lakers anymore, that brings the Lakers back to square one, which was Lonzo Ball.
Both outlets report that the package the Celtics would receive in return would include multiple draft picks, including this year's No. 3 overall pick.
However, the team could shake everything up by drafting Josh Jackson.
For the Boston Celtics, the goal may be higher. The Celtics presumably would take Jackson third, if the Lakers took Ball at No. 2.
Lakers Trade News: No. 2 pick and Julius Randle for No. 1 pick? Above all though, he's able to focus on the big picture better than perhaps any other GM in basketball.
Meanwhile, ESPN's Chad Fordreported a day earlier that the Lakers have held internal discussions about potentially swapping first-round picks with the Phoenix Suns, who will select No. 4 in the highly-touted draft class.
Los Angeles would then come out the ultimate winners.
